New Car on order - can't wait

I have a new Civic on order, it's a :-

Civic 1.8 i-VTEC EX in Alabaster Silver, standard wheels, no extras.
It was a stock model they are expecting in on the 18th July.

I took a test drive in a 1.8 SE and I was very impressed overall, so I should be more than happy when I get all the gadgets as well.

My current car is VW Beetle 1.9 TDI, which I have enjoyed for the last 3 years, but it does seem a bit basic now, especially compared to the Civic. Three years ago the Beetle cost me nearly as much as the Civic did today!

I managed to get a good deal on the Civic with a small discount and Honda Happiness thrown in for free.

I will let you all know when I get the car, and post some pics of course.

What I would really like to do is get my hands on a copy of the Handbook, but I can't seem to find a version available online, that way I could be all up to speed when I collect it.

Pity there is no iPod connector either, but it's not the end of the world.

Ian

Good choice Parky, your going to enjoy it The Civic handbook is a bit of a novel, and provides hours of bedtime reading Then you've got the satnav handbook to read as well...............

The good thing about the main manual and the additional satnav manual is that if you need to jack the car up you can use the manuals as chocks under the wheels on the other axle to stop the car moving.

You would think they would make it available online if it is so big!

I want to know more about how it all works.....like

Does MP3 track information appear on the screen?
Will the Bluetooth integration work with my Blackberry handset, and how do I dial?

Good choice Parky, u will have lots of fun with the gadgets in your new car, I know I do

The mp3 track info is displayed through the satnav screen, u just hit the Audio button and u can move through the songs and folders on the disc. I have made a WMA cd for mine and all the track and album names are displayed. Only thing I don’t like is the time it takes to initially build the play list, but it does play the 1st track while u wait

As for your Blackberry, eh....not sure I have setup the in car phonebook so when I press the button on the steering wheel all I say is "Call" and "Home" for example, or u can say the number u want to call...but It has never understood me yet ......But there’s always the easy option, pick up phone, dial number, transfer to hands free.....but that’s no fun, much better trying to get the voice control thing to understand u at 70mph on the motorway :P

Then u have the extensive list of voice commands for satnav / audio / climate control / and phone........It's fun trying to remember them.

Me " Fan Speed 2"
Car " Temperature 18 degrees"
Me " No that’s not what I said"
Me " Fan Speed 2!!!"
Car " Air Conditioner Off"
Me " ARRRRRGGGG **** **** ****!!!
Me " Never Mind I'll press the button"

LoL, it's great fun.

For the HFT list of compatible phones check out http://www.hondahandsfree.com/ however, saying that I have a Sony Ericson Z900 paired to my car and its not listed. You can pair up to 5 handsets, although you have to select which one you want to use, push the button "next phone" and it moves along the list.

As for dialling it can be a pain to have to speak all numbers, but once you have stored the names on the car you just speak the assigned tag. It can not access your phone address book like some kits can. But to be honest even though I travel a lot for work and spend a lot of time on the phone it is easy to get on with, just load up your main contacts and use those, you can answer calls no issue. And to be honest if I am calling a person who is not listed in the car it is likely to be an important contact so needs my full attention.

As for Deemons experience, I have had similar, but only when you are showing off to someone how good it is

Me: Temperature 20 degrees

LONG PAUSE

Car: Radio 200 Long wave

Makes you feel a bit silly.

Great news about the MP3 display, I will just have to convert all my AAC files in iTunes to be MP3 files now, unless it can play unprotected AAC files as well !!

I may just re-rip some favourite CD's to MP3 and burn a Mega CD

I would read the following message before you burn the CD, might save you a wasted disc or 2.

Oh Dear !!! I just checked the Honda page you suggested and it says :-

"Blackberry currently has no phones that are compatible with HandsFreeLink."

What a pain, not much I can do about it either as it is my company supplied phone.

I do have a Motorola SLVR which will work, so I may just get a Pay as you Go card for that and at least be connected at the weekends !! Hate having 2 phone numbers though

This is very confusing !

If you look at the Honda Handsfree site one bit says that no Blackberry handsets are compatible and the in the compare all phones bit it lists 2 as fully compatible. I guess I will just have to wait and see......
