Question Type 'R' gearstick - Will it fit???

Right,

12hrs of Civic ownership and I hate it.................OK not the car but I don't like the type 's' gearstick. I think it needs a gaitor and an aluminium gearknob.......so looking in the type 'r' brochure I reckon that it'll fit the type 's' or std civic gearstick.

So if I buy the type 'r' parts will it fit?

Answers on a postcard plz

I prefer Aluminium, having owned an Accord Type 'R' before & when I replaced the Impreza with the old car, Accord Sport, I bought an aluminium gearknob. As this is a 6 speed and the gaitor is custom fit I want to replace the std one with the type r one.

Yes you're quite right, you have the same er....knob as me. I'd be interested in the 'R' gear knob too, no reason why it wouldn't be possible.

hmmmm.

As noted on that other thread, I've got the (small) CTR knob screwed on the top of my stick

BUT

by the time I added a smallish nut underneath the knob (without it the gear layout pic on the knob was at an angle), it's hardly any shorter than the £75 knob upgrade I paid for originally.

If that makes sense?

Anyway.

From the pics in the R brouchure, the whole R stick looks shorter than that in the S / 5 door.

might just be an illusion by the gater though.

OK, just back from the dealer.

Although the type 's' gearstick looks taller than the type 'r' it does look like its only the length of the knob (oooh eerr ) and not the stem it screws into. However, if I were to purchase these from the Parts dept I may find it comes with the 'U' shape surround, which in the type 'r' is dark grey and not silver like in the type 's'. I need to wait on the 'r' being released before ordering.

The dealer had the 'r' out of sight, locked up in a single bay in a different building out the road and the salesman was very secretive about going to view it for some daft reason. So I wasn't even allowed to open the door to have a closer look.

Yeah **, thats the only thing that I thought would make it look odd, I had only considered the white stitching in the steering wheel, never thought of the seat stitching. Might give it up as a bad idea now

It looks like it is but when I saw in on Saturday I thought its the Type 'S' knob that makes it look bigger (im my opinion)

I had a look at ** suggested richbrook gaitors but they don't have the Civic surround available.

Well the old type-R gear knob fits the 2006 Civic as does the S2000 half leather gear knob (have one of those fitted in my car) so I would be extremely surprised if they have changed the fitting size for the new Type-R
