Rear door handle

Still makes me smile when you give a lift to someone for the first time and they try to " pull down " the front seat to get in the back... .
Anyone else had this?

Before I got the car I was chatting to a mate and said that my main thing I wanted was a 5 door; I wouldn't buy a 3 door.

So I got the car and brought it to work and his reply was "I thought you weren't getting a 3 door" and actually had to go outside to prove it to him!

My boss questioned how I got the company to authorise the Civic, when we are supposed to buy 3 doors, even though its my own car because it is funded by the company they have a say.

Hi, we actually had a local supervising Driving Examiner (the one who actually sits in the back to watch how the driving examiner conducts the test) try to see if the front seat moved forward. After looking for a few moments he asks the student how do you get in the back? Was even funnier when the other examiner at the end of the test tells his boss 'I better open the door to let you out in case you can't manage it!'

I like that, that made me laugh, my gf keeps reaching over to pick things up of the back seat when we get home from somewhere, and I just say to her why not just open the back door to get things out, obviously we are stationary when I say this as opening the back door whilst driving is a very dangerous thing to do

Yeah the sister in law just stood there and stared at the rear door looking for the handle in the end I had to put her out of her misery.

Aaahh - I can appreciate the confusion, but for those who have owned an Alfa 156 it's all very familiar territory

Not many cars have those. Alfas were the first AFAIK, but even they haven't included them in their 159s.
I think I remeber seeing them on new Leons.

I've had to explain to a couple of people already how to open the back doors.

first time we saw the new civic, it took my wife about 2 minutes of looking, before my 7 year old daughter pointed it out as if it was obvious

Indeed...as someone about to move from a 156 to a Civic I'm looking forward to the continuing puzzled looks from anyone who tries to get in the back.

For the record, I believe the guy who designed the 156 now works for Seat, which probably explains why some of their cars now have these handles, as well as a few other similar design features I could bore you all with.

As for the 159, I think Alfa have tried to create a more grown up 156 but the design doesn't quite work in the same way. Well that's what I'm convincing myself of because I can't really afford one!

As for the Civic, the rear door handles are an almost carbon copy of the Alfa ones in terms of design...as if they've lifted them straight out the Fiat parts bin! Just a shame they didn't also copy the cast aluminium front door handles instead of the chromed plastic efforts...would have cost pennies extra but so much nicer.

i have had this lots of times, give my mates a work a lift to bus stop and they all wait for the front seat to be moved before they get in lol.

i find with mine that because my back doors arent used very often that the suction is quite srong and they need a good pull. they are getting better now but its funny when people say that the back door is locked, i have to say "just give it a good pull" which always gets a giggle lol

I'm waiting for the 3 door release, and then watching people thinking they know better and trying to open the non existent rear doors!

now that will be funny

Yeah, the seals are really strong sometimes, and there's not much motion in the handle, relatively speaking.

Pulled to a stop with my wife in the car to pick someone up and they just stood there waiting for one of us to get out to let them in. I had to suggest they opened the back door!
