A sad but humourous true story!

I today discovered a new feature of the car. Whilst driving home on a winding country lane just exiting a hairpin bend and accelerating out I noticed a bird swoop low just in front of me. Didn't hear anything go clunk so thought nothing of it and carried on my way.

Arriving home I noticed something moving in the breeze sticking out of the front lower honeycomb grill. On closer inspection I found that the bird had not got away with it afterall and it was a little robin's head sticking out of the grill.

I reckon I was doing about 55 when I hit it so unsurprisingly it was dead although it looked relatively undamaged, just looked like it had been sucked in arse first leaving it's head poking out.

For those of you still reading at this point here's punchline! In it's beak was a tiny worm still alive and squirming about so although I was sad to kill the bird I inadvertedly saved the worm

Anyone else used the advanced bird killing worm saving device (front mesh grill) yet??

You're pretty lucky there by the sound of it.

I was going along in my Rover Coupe some years ago and a blackbird (crow?) flew in front of me and hit the car hard.

I was travelling at a fair speed and when I looked in my rearview mirror all I could see across the dual carriageway was a large cloud of black feathers. Then all of a sudden, while I was looking, the bird just plummeted down to the ground in the midele of them. It looked quite comical and I had a little chuckle to myself.

When I got home I had a look at the front of the car. The headlight was cracked, the bonnet was dented, paint had chipped and there were entrails all over the front and down the side to the boot.

I bet that bird's ghost had a chuckle to itself when I got a bill for £300.

Thanks for sharing that with us, made me smile . If I see a crow next time I think I'll take to grass verge or the wrong side of the road and take my chances!!

Oopsie... I had a similar experience once... bit strange this one too....

I had pulled into the local garage for a fill up (when I had me accord, so that's oooh... 1995 I think) and the bloke behind the desk, who I knew, said...

"Whats that bird doing in your car?"

Puzzled I said "Oh her the other day, was my new girlfriend" (cos I'd just started a new relationship!)

"Nah, whats THAT BIRD doin in your car, in the engine?"

Not very helpful that - I was rather puzzled and just left the garage, only then when I got home, with the aim of cleaning the car top to tail did I realise that he'd been on about some sparrow or something that was wedged arse first in the radiator vents (under the bumper on that car)

My last encounter (funny enough, not had the civic long) was with a particularly lazy and stupid wood pigeon, who decided that at 7am, the best place for a kip is a side road... cue me bearing down on said moronic fowl, a quick take off and then a lovely view of its bum about an inch from me windscreen....

Mate of mine had his car (wasn't a Honda so shame on him) written off by an airborne cow. Seriously. It jumped over a hedge in a field, the fields were higher up than the road was, the cow landed on the roof. Lucky for him it was at the back end but the car was stuffed.

Don't think he eats beef even now.

I was worried about that too but I have it on good authority from a work colleague who is an ornothologist (bird watcher, twitcher whatever you want to call them) that they don't have chicks til later in the year April/May time so I haven't wiped out a whole family

At least with a cow you could get a few free steaks and burgers, not much meat on a Robin, but tastes like chicken apparently!!

It's surprising how many headlines this affair has generated.

"Driver admits CockRobin murder" "Fly's evidence discounted" "Black sheep gives bags full of evidence"

Obviously worm was a crucial witness and has been taken into custody for his own protection.

I've even heard that a projected moon launch has been postponed by cow and that mouse central has cancelled all clock runs till further notice! Amazing, eh?
