Recommending your Civic
So, I've just bought my FN2, and now everyone I know seems to think I'm some sort of car buying guru
![]() As I'm a curious fellow, has anyone else recommended their Civic to friends, colleague, family etc; and what feature did you use to recommend it to them?

Nope, told them to steer clear of the damned things and buy something else....
Everyone that has asked my opinion of my car has been shocked when they find out Honda's arn't built as well as they were, it's the main poit for buying one is usually the inference.... like finding volvo's crumple in crashes... you buy volvo's cos they're built like tanks Tom |

Interesting, I think it's a sad fact modern cars aren't built as well as older cars, I can give you some horror stories about new mini's and clutches for example....
Do you still have your Civic Unknown, or was it so bad you got rid of it? |

Jimbo, Sadly I still have her, I dearly love the engine (and the car really, despite the problems), but the problems just make me think I wasted my money on a heap, and it is a source of severe annoyance Tom |

I got used to not having a rear wiper on the last Civic as it refused to work, so has never been a problem for me! As for keeping it clean, try a current 5 door Corsa (the wife's car), it seems to be a muck magnet, especially the back hatch.
Tom, what are you looking at next if you don't mind me asking? I've two friends looking at 5 door Civics now, so want them to at least consider the other options! |

I'm tempted with a 3dr Defender 90, I've had my eye on I'm in the country where my new place is, I'll be doing limited miles and I shoot at weekends so the ability to drive across fields is a bonus. TBH though if I were looking now for a Hatch, I'd look at either the new Mito (Alfa) or one of the Kia/Hyundai range. GF's dad has just got an i10 and really rates it Tom |

Every car I have had previously has given me problems so it's hard making a choice what to recommend. My Gf has a Discovery 3 at the moment only had it a year and it's been a real money pit no end of problems, whereas my Civic has been fine so far?

So I'm sensing a love for 4x4's. Unfortunately I doubt that'll go down well as a recommendation. Come on folks, need some reasons to recommend Civics, not reasons to avoid them! I would say the driving experience for me, but then that's the point of having a CTR. Is it similar in the other Civics? |

Sadly, I'll join the choir of people not recommending it... Too many annoying faults and rattles. Everyone who knows me, my friends, family and colleagues at work will surely not consider a Honda Civic after experiencing everything I've been through the last 2,5 years with this car.

My old EP3 was bullit proof, the only time I took it into Honda was for servicing and PX for my FN2. It seems as if im taking the FN2 in every month for warranty work. My warranty ends soon and with all the problems I would rather get a new car than spend all my money on repairs. |

Mine has had a few issues, but I did recommend it to a few people asking what I think about it - because this is one of the most rewarding cars I have driven - it is inspiring to drive, see and sounds bloody nice for a small 1.8L.
New cars have faults and from my point of view (which is also what I have told the people asking for advise) the Civic is great value for the money. One of my friends bought a 2009 ES after my advice and is very pleased with it. And no, you really don't need a wiper. The rear view is not poorer than the new Astra, Megane 2 or Megane 3 - with or without a wiper. And do you cry for a wiper on a regular sedan? The rain falls just as much on them. |

while mine was being repaired again at the bodyshop at brindley they lent me a vectra 1.8 08 plate got to say the suspension was great but that was it what a relief it was to get my civic back, what i'm trying to say is if you can live with the rattles and suspension this is a great car and i have to say ive driven a few cars with the same price tag and the civic feels so different unless your going to buy a bmw, audi, merc you wont get better imo.

Value for money - my 1.8 'Executive' (EX in the UK) is a joy to drive, and has "goodies" built, in that cost a lot to add to pretty much all of it's competitors ...
Yes, yes, yes - the suspension is the poorest feature (something has to be the poorest !) - but overall, it was never bad, and after a few 'mods' it's just how I like it - firm but stable ... As in most car forums, those with 'issues' complain, while the (silent) majority are well pleased ! ... |

As a 'young' driver, i just dont have the finance to get rid of the civic and buy another car, so i'll be living with it untill it dies and considering the engine is about the only thing still going strong in mine, i'll be stuck with it for long. And because of that i have never recommended the civic to anyone and i'm glad i didn't! |

Why I like my car:
LOVE the engine Driving is greatAdore the looks of it, still turns heads Enjoy the interior - like the dash layout and gadgets etc... Remains very practical - used when moving house! BUT I do dislike: Sporadic creaks from the dash Hearing how some people are poorly treated by dealers |
