erm, tips..... get there early as poss so you don't miss out on the start of the day. i'm planning on getting there for 9 latest. be prepared for a long day, expect to leave there at 6pm. took me 6 hours to get home last time (2 hour journey usually), purely due to unforeseen traffic. (i have booked the monday off work the car park itself is a car show with all the supercars parked up there! it is a huge estate, so you'll be on your feet all day, sun lotion is a must if anyone is prone to getting burnt. get lots of sleep the night before so you have plenty of energy for the day. there'll be food there but you might wanna bring a sandwich or something to keep you going. |

I have always fancied it but it really is a long way for me and then add to that traffic problems and it really puts me off

Just an advance warning, Goodwood traffic is notoriously bad if your trying to arrive at peak times. I am aiming to get there by about 8

I really enjoy the show, definitely the show of the year for me. You get up close to all the supercars, and racing drivers. Only a bale of hay separates you from the driving track.
So many manufacturers are there with showrooms, events and concept cars as well. Roll on the wkend |

Tips - all previous tips good. If you want to get some good pics of the cars on the hill (and dont have grandstand seats), get there early and stake a claim on a spot up against the bales that line the course. A good spot (but v popular) is outside the house (opposite the Park Grandstand with the house behind you). You get a good view of a fair length of the track (including a quite tight corner which is fun in the rain or if the drivers are engaging in "spirited driving" Molecombe Corner is also good as this is the end of the house / paddock bit of the track and the speeds are high by this point and its a pretty sharp left hander, plenty of scope for sideways action (saw Anthony Reid stuff a Le Mans winning Bently into the bales here one year). Oh, and not sure if they are doing it this year, but if they are, queue to get driven round the off road course in a Bowler Wildcat. Just take some spare trousers, thats all I will say. Another thing, you can go into the Paddock area, and get very up close and personal with nearly all the cars. If you get there v early (paddock opens at 8am) there is almost no-one about, so you can get some brillant pics of the cars. Also, when they change between the various classes, they hold / start / fettle the cars (or just rev to show off) at the end of the paddock area, by the footbridge. And the only thing standing between you and the cars is a bit of metal fencing (the kind that lines carnival routes). This includes the F1 cars... When they are all started and revved up/ driving out, the sound is like nothing on earth. Above all, enjoy! |

I want good pics and I've got a roving grandstand pass!!!! I'm worried that all the prime locations will full up really early. Any advice where I should head early on for good seats and photo opps? I'll move about a bit more later in the day once I have the feel of the place....!
