Thule Roofrack

Hi

After searching through posts i see there are 2 options for roofracks either Honda or Thule. Does anyone have any pics of a Thule roofrack attached to a Civic 06. Ideally want to see how it looks and how easy it is to mount/unmount, rather then paying high price for Honda's one

Thanks in advance

Just fitted my Thule roof bars at the weekend, will post so pictures at lunch time. I will appologise now, they were taken on my phone.

Easy to fit and they mount on the metal surrounding the glazed roof, unlike the honda ones which over lap the glazed section.

Honda ones are £250, Thule about £150???? I think.

Thanks for the reply.

Pics look good from a mobile.

My only concern is scratching the paintwork after you have fitted/removed them several times ?

I had Thule bars on my last Civic and never had a problem with them causing scratches.
Just clean the mounting area and make sure there is no grit on the bars feet.
The base of the feet is a rbbuer pad and the brackets are plastic coated and hook inside the door rebate without touching the roof.

Thanks for the Thule Pictures

The Thule bars look quite good. Thanks for posting them up. Maybe next time.

Mind if I go for the TypeR think I will be back to cutting the roof strips!

regards

I have a set for my Black L200 Warrior and I have scratched the paintwork several times with them. You really need two people to put them on and off. Also make sure that the clamps are wide open. The rubberised plastic feet have also broken off twice. Next time I need a roofrack, I will buy an OEM one.

Hello!

Could somebody please confirm that the Thule 1416 kit does not fit perfectly on the roof edge? Today I couldn't get it to sit on it as I imagine it should. There was a gap either in the front or overlapping at the end of the rubber foot. As if the angle of the groove was app. 5 deg off.

Did I make myself clear enough? I hope so.

Thank you for any answers, Andrej

Mine fits a treat and I only snapped it the night before last. See pics (they're also on another post here somewhere)

Make sure you're set the distances correct (250mm from the front windscreen, 650mm apart) and also the adjustments underneath (I cannot remember these but they are in the fitting guide.

I'm very happy with my fit.

PM me if you've got any other Q's or want some more snaps.

Has anyone else found that the rack can move backwards in use and come to rest against the corner of the rear door opening?

I didn't even get to using it. I could move it with my hands, even if I tightened the bars fully.

As I can see from the picture your's also has a gap in the front of the foot. IMO it is not safe.

Sorry p64 the photo is not the best. I'll fit it again next week when I take my canoe out and take a better photo for you. There is no gap at all and it fits very tightly.

The rubber boots for the front are different for each side (249, 250 printed on them?) and curve perfectly to fit the shape of the gutter. I can honestly say they fit a treat and I'm very happy. It does sound as though the feet are set too far apart to me. Seriously though if it doesn't fit I'd take it back and make sure you have the correct parts in the boxes.

I have just phoned my retailer, who gave me Thule's technical help-line and they say they have never heard of the problem.....

I am going to take mine fully to bits and rebuild it and try again.

To Thule roof bars owner :
How do the bars sound when driving ?
I just bought another brand (La Prealpina - made in Italy) that work the same as Thule (bars + feets + kit) only its 30% cheaper.
BUT, and this is a HUGE but, the noise they make is unbearable (like a big pan-flute).
Its annoying at 90kph
Much too loud at 110kph
You cannot reach highter speed for fear the vibes will destroy the roof.
Roof bars on my former car (a Picasso) were barely noticeable, and I've made long trips at 110kph without problem.

I have 3 bikes on my roof at upto 130 kph there is wind noise, but nothing like a flute.

At 100 - 110 kph there is no major sound.

I have the square section bars rather than the aero bars, so that may be a difference.

Thanks for your reply alanwalne.
I also have square bars, so no major sound on your side means I should'nt have either.
This probably means that a lot of air is going in the various holes of the structure. I will have to try to put foam & tape where I can to suppress the "grant organ" effect of the bars.

Beginning to think it was a bad move not to stick to Honda bars (3 time the price nethertheless)

I also regret not getting the non Honda bars as Thule do not use the fix points that Honda provided and I find my bars can move backwards a little in use.

Thinking back, I had exactly the same whistle sound as you describe when I was using cheaper cross bars on a Zafira with std roof rails
