scrap that, the steering lock was tight on, I turned the wheel and the ignition at the same time and it clicked and allowed me to start the car... phew, glad I din't make a tool of myself by ringing someone.

Just out of interest is there a callout charge for roadside assistance?

I doubt it, that is what they are there for. Check with them when you call and explain what the problem is.

Really!

I can imagine you were a little shocked, but posting on a forum before making simple checks? Would you post a letter to a member of the family sat on the sofa to ask them to turn the TV volume down?

Honda roadside care is great. On the one occasion i've needed it it was when I stupidly ran my FR-v out of fuel in France on a Sunday morning, backup arrived in 40 mins and I was only charged for the fuel and was guided to the nearest open garage (a rare sight in France on a Sunday!)

LOL .

I have done this before when we changed my Girlfriends car. I was there for about 20 minutes cussing and swearing at the car becaise the key was jammed and wouldn't turn. Then she came out to see what all the fuss was about, moved the wheel slightly, **click**, turned the key and started it up! I felt like a right plonker and 4 years later still haven't lived it down
