J D Power Survey
Hi fellow Civer's!
Just got my JD Power Survey in the post this morning, anyone else had the pleasure? I know that with me filling it in, it probably won't even have the slightest effect, but it'll make me feel better and hopefully Honda will see some of the problems some people have been having. |

Mind you - I've just read that "only a limited number of car owners have been asked to participate, so your answers are extremely important".
Maybe I will have a bit of an effect afterall? |

What do you mean? All what we have here are only small niggles (on earlier models only)! Do you know what problems are? Check a Peugeot, Renault... forum! They have real problems! Overheting, damageing turbos, cylinderhead gaskets, stucking EGR valves and a lot of major failures... on new cars!! |

I also found out yesterday that my car has to go back in again for ANOTHER recall making it a 7th visit in only 5 months. Not what I would describe as a piece of cake! I'm sure there are some other people on here with the early models that have had similar issues, and some that haven't had any at all, all I know is that for the people that have it hasn't been an easy ride at all (pardon the pun!). |

ok, but if you buy a brand new model just a few months after start of production you should have count with issues like these.. (unfortunately
it's hard to wait but worth! because then you get a newer model with far less or bugfree! just look at Buying/2007 model year cars thread... |

I think MY09 will be the facelifted model.
I'm courious about the updates, refined design, engines (I'm not sure if it's needed but a slight better production quality would be good |

I think that Honda had issues coping with the demand and started to compromise on quality to get the cars out of the factory quicker. |

It's normal at every car manufacturers that early models have more bugs than upgraded, facelifted cars. We could say generally the later the car was produced (after "start of production") the better. You should accept that! (Just look at MY07 cars no recalls, but at MY06 there were some Most important is that we (me def.!) love the Civics with the few bugs also (if there is any) and hopefully dealers will sort the problems for everybody! |

As has been said it is very common for niggles/faults on early models.
I had loads of problems with an early Mini which over the 2 years I had it went back 15 times for faults. Eventually I had had enough and complained like mad and after mithering them to death, Mini agreed to get the dealer to buy it back off me and they offered me a new one at cost price (which I didn't take up). A mate is a Quality Control Manager for a part supplier to the motor industry (including the Civic) and he gets dragged in often with all the other suppliers for big Pow Wows to discuss faults - He says Honda is the most stringent when it comes to QC, it's just a matter of time before they iron out the bugs. |

When I got my first 7th generation Civic it was a new platform/model/engine too.
Only had a recall for the fuel-filler tube and the driverseat was wobbling after a while. But that's it. And this Civic was build in North America (Ohio or Ontario), which has not the same reputation for quality as Japan. So a new design isn't always flawed with major problems at the beginning. Perhaps my example is just an example, but Honda isn't in the top list of quality and reliability for no reason. |

Possible recall due to windscreen seal
Hi,
I took my 06 civic back to Honda on Saturday for the CD player to be replaced as the eject mechanismn is playing up, whilst I was there I was advised that Honda have told all their dealers to check the windscreen rubber seal where it joins the roof, evidently they have come accross issues where movement between the roof and seal is wearing through the paint. On checking this has actually happened and they now will be fitting a modified seal and will have to repaint part of the roof. Although this is not yet an official recall it is worth checking. If it is not detected then basically rust will start to set in, I don't understand why Honda are not recalling the cars to check this rather than waiting until a car comes in for service etc. |

Perhaps not in every single case the rubbing will cause paint to wear. Maybe they keep tabs on the % of cars come in with this, and afterwards decide to put out a recall when the % get's too high. It's all about balancing the $ against the risks.

I know we have been round this many times; it doesn't make it right but all makes have far more problems than they should, and some people are luckier than others. I have an April 06 model and have very few issues.
A friend of mine got the latest Audi A4 when it first came out and he had many serious problems including 2 new gearboxes, new cylinder head and they could never resolve the wind noise issue. Another friend had an new A4 convertible; he pushed the button to open the roof and it stopped in the vertical position so he could not drive it. Highly embarassing as he was in a city centre. My neighbour also had one of those Vauxhall people carriers like the one that Top Gear covered in cow s**t, and compared to that the Civic is a dream |
