Collecting new Civic on 25th July.

Hello all,

I've just found this excellent forum, and after browsing some of the posts I decided to register.

I'm collecting a 1.8 i-VTEC Sport (manual) in Galaxy Grey with a few of optional extras: body coloured spoiler, front fogs lights and the aluminium / leather gear knob. I'm undecided about the 18" alloys, they look fantastic but they're a bit pricey.

Last week I couldn't resist popping into the Honda dealer to see if my car was there, as they had the exact model with the options I wanted in their compound. Boy was I shocked - the car was covered in bird crap......and lots of it

I had a quick look around the car and noticed a 4 inch sinusoidal hairline scratch on the rear door I spoke to the Sales Manager who reassured me the car "would look a million dollars when you come to collect it". Its sort of been on my mind since then as I'm wondering how they will remove it. I just hope they don't respray the door - does anyone know if there is a layer of lacquer on the paint?

Hopefully it'll be fine when me and the missus collects her - I'll post some pics before my car becomes too dirty

I didn't realise how popular Galaxy Grey is before I chose the colour, nearly every Civic I pass is the same. I've only seen one other colour and that was the solid red - didn't look as nice I have to admit.

Great forum and posts.

B.

It may be worth seeing if you can get the fogs and spoiler thrown in for free (if you have not already). I believe they are now included on the sport for a limited period?

I ordered mine a while ago. Only after seeing the dealers demo car a few weks ago I became convinced that Galaxy Gray was what I wanted. I only saw a 4-door model in that colour back then in February so driving around in one for a couple of days was great.

Definitely one of the best colours in my opinion. Congratulations in advance!

Oh, and I take it you've already read this

If they are anything like my local dealer , they will get the biggest rotary , the strongest cutting compound and polish the scratch out leaving holograms and zero clearcoat. Then respray the panel. I hope your dealer does a better job.

Welcome Bart. Whilst your on this Forum, will you stop using words like "sinusoidal". We all have to run for the dictionary, and its time consuming!!!!. Hope the car is o.k

How can the car have a sinusoidal scratch, it doesn't have a nose.

Bart, welcome!

Now you have the waveform sussed, it will be dead easy to spot it when you pick the car up. I'd make sure that it wasn't raining, and I'd go to it knowing I was going to reject it. Just get your head at all angles to see if you can see any rework - and take it from there. Always best to walk away if you're not satisfied, 'cos once you've driven away you have "accepted" the fault.

Thanks for the responses guys - sorry for using silly words

Johnd - did your car have a scratch on it before you collected it? I've got a funny feeling that they'll try to respray it, whch will be just my luck

The fogs and the body coloured spoiler are in with the price of the car, the sales exec said it was a promotion on their 2nd quarter cars. With the met paint and 3yrs free servicing the car is just over £15,400.

I do hope they do a good job on the car - makes you wonder what condition new cars are in before you actually pick them up.

Cheers,

B.

No scratches Bart just a paint defect that got progressively worse, the croatian valeters that they all seem to have now made all the holograms , which then needed correction. The re-spray was done at a Honda approved bodyshop and the state the car was returned in was a joke, but as the norm once they got your money nobody cares.

Well, the day has come and gone and I'm still "Civic less"

The dealer has really messed me about from the start, and today they hammered the final nail into the coffin. The sales exec who was doing the hand over was on a course for 2 days (Monday & Tuesday) and had "penciled" me in for tomorrow at 1 o'clock when it should have been today (Tuesday).

To be very polite - I was really narked so I told them that "with the scratch and their in-attention to detail/courtesy" I was rejecting the car.

The sales manager was apologetic and told me that he would be having very strong words with the sales exec in the morning and gave me my £1,000 deposit back, although he has refused to give me a refund of the admin costs of the car insurance as "he was out of pocket too with the tax etc" - its only £22 but its the principle of the thing.

Anyway the day ended on a high because another Honda dealer only 20 miles away has ordered me a 1.8 i-Vtec Sport in Cosmic Grey from their Swindon production line (without the bird crap on the roof optional extra) - I'll hopefully collect it on or about the 4th August, so not too long to wait. It has the free options of fogs & spoiler, and the colour (in my humble opinion) is marginally nicer than the galaxy grey.

I'm not sure whether I should name & shame the dealer - especially as they won't give me a refund on the insurance admin costs. I'm going to write to Honda to complain about the way I've been treated and to ask for my £22 back. It might sound petty, but why should I be out of pocket because of their inadequacies

Bart, although annoying, and although it may have cost £22, that sounds like a result!

Assuming that's all fact, name away! If I get time later, I'll tell you about a Ford Focus story from another forum.. it's a shocker.

Rather than naming a dealer, which may have 'come back' ?

Why not just suggest an area/town etc, that it may be a good idea to steer away from. There can't be too many towns that have more than one dealer.

As long as the details are factual, there's no "come back".

Very impressed you could get so close and then say 'No, you are a bunch of misfits I shall take my business elsewhere!"

So this Ford Focus thing..

Someone on another forum ordered a Ford Focus ST3, and was told August delivery date.

The dealer gets in touch and says there's a delay likely, not sure how long, and that he'll have to wait until it is ready.

Person goes to another dealer, and they can get one within the week, identical!

Person goes back to original dealer and says "Look, you keep delaying/messing about, I can get another one somewhere else - keep the deposit, I'm off"...

Dealer says "Errr, no. It's ordered now, nothing you can do about it, you HAVE to buy it". Wouldn't back down.

Person worries that they've now ordered two cars, and so get a bit angry about it and calls the dealer back the next day. After a lot of argument, dealer says "Okay, you can cancel, but you have to give me another £500 to break the contract"

:-O

WTF?

Anyhow, he called Ford, and they said "Nowt we can do, it's up to the dealer"..

In the end, after a couple of hours VERY heated argument the dealer literally told him to "F**K OFF" out of the showroom and never come back.

I suppose I was lucky in a way as I hadn't signed a contract and the £1,000 deposit was paid through Visa, so the dealer really had to refund my money.

The dealer I'm buying this new Civic from is much smaller than the first one, not only in size but in turn over. I think this has an effect on the way your treated as their attitude and attentiveness has so far been impecable. Whereas the first dealer treated me as another statistic coming through the door - aloof and totally disinterested.

Maybe it pays to approach the smaller dealer first as they'll do all they can to get and keep your business.

Completely agree with you Bart. Had similar experiences when I bought my 206. This time it was all down to finding a superb salesperson from a big dealer. Had it not been for her I would've gone with some smaller company.

Well I hope everything goes well for you this time round.
