Need to purchase roof bars for my civic to carry ladders etc on occasional basis (and maybe later, bikes).
Has anyone purchased same or considered doing so? Any suggestions ref. price and whether genuine Honda bars are preferable to other makes? Mine is a 2006 1.8 Sport. |

I just looked into this, I have and Accord but just ordered a Civic, I used Thule bars on my Accord and they were just fine and much cheaper than the Honda ones. If you have 5 door Civic you need Thule footpack 750 (£62), bars 769 (£20)and fitting kit 1416 (£20), the footpack is the same as the Accord so I just need the longer bars and fitting kit. Take a look on ebay you might be able to find these much cheaper.

I had a Jazz with Thule roofbars before my civic and found the footpack rubbed the paintwork around the door openings and after about a year was starting to look a bit scruffy, so decided to opt for the honda bars as they sit on the roof without the clamps that the Thule ones use.
So far they are great much better than my old Thule ones, (my only gripe would be that the honda bars are a bit shorter), they even have a nice rubber insert along the bars to prevent things slidding about and look a bit funkier that the old thule ones. However, I have a glass roof -- will those thule roof bars be suitable for glassroof? The only trouble with the glass roof, as on the GT Type S is that it reduces the capacity to 35kg (I think) and seeing as I carry 3 kayaks regularly this wasnt an option for me, but might be something to think about depending on how much weight you are going to carry, poss a towbar would be a better option. Either way I love my honda bars and am glad I bought them even if they were more cash! |

I have the roof bars on the standard 5 door civic 2006. If it is the same procedure for fitting as the 5 door hatch then it is hideous. You have to cut (with a hacksaw) the roof strips at certain points to access the bolt's in the roof. You then get four plastic covers to go over the holes in your roofstrips.
Was not happy doing this at all on a car 5 week's old. Best of luck J. |

I ended up buying the Thule pack from 'Snow chains of Europe' on the internet, got the more aerodynamic silver coloured bars which were more expensive but even with delivery came to £129.00.
Honda had quoted approx £162.00 to supply genuine Honda bars. I am very pleased with the Thule bars and find they are relatively quick to fit and even quicker to remove. The Thule price included 4 locks as well. |

The other problem with the Honda bars apart from cutting the roof trim???? is that for the full load you also have to buy a 50 quid upgrade kit. So about £230.00 rather than £105.00 for the Thule ones (I went for the cheaper black bars) was too much.
