Washer bottle - tube - whats it for?

Hello, just filled up my washer bottle this evening and noticed a black tube attached to the lid that goes all the way down into the bottle. Thought it might have been a sensor but no wires. Is it simply like a dipstick, to allow us to see how wet the thing is when we pull it out and hence determine how full the bottle is?

Plus - when you inspect the lid closely, you'll see a small hole meaning it is also a sort of venting for washerfluid tank

BTW. My first post here, hello everybody!

When we are on with wash bottles. Does the civics have a sensor to warn you when your level is down ?

It's a breather tube so that air can escape from the bottle as you fill it up. Bottles that don't have this are a nuisance to fill, as the air flows up past the incoming water and overflows all the time.

Plant your finger over that hole to seal it before you pull the lid out and the washer fluid will stay inside the tube so you can see how full it is.

there is no sensor in the bottle to detect how low or little there is.

I think it's more simple than that, I think it's so you don't loose the lid!

Civic's are truely state of the art. Even a small piece of plastic has a multitude of functions, and we can even discuss them. And we haven't gotten to the difficult stuff like camshafts. How cool is that ?

That darn thing almost gave me a heart attack.
The day after I picked up the car, I took it to
get the new wheels ant tires put on. Talked to some of
the guys from the place because they had never worked
on a new Civic before, they all loved it. After he
put the tires on, as a service to all customers, they
always check the engine oil and fill up the washer fluid.
So I'm talking to some other mechanic while the guy fills up my
fluid and makes an "oops" sound and looks into the engine bay
after the bottle's top that just fell down... We all thought he
just broke it... Had a good laugh after we found out it was
in fact removable.

Even if it did it would be pointless - similar to the oil warning light and handbrake!
