Stupid Driver!

Well my nice Civic has now been bashed by a stupid driver and done damage to the front end.

I was parked outside the station about 6 feet behind the car in front.
When the train arrived the passenger of the car in front was on it and got into the car, then the driver simply reversed without looking at quite a high speed right into the front on my car. Her answer when she got out was "Sorry I did not see you" And why was that - because she never looked!!

What was the damage to my car?

Well it seems to have pushed up the bumper which has caused the centre grill to be dislodged. If I open the bonnet the black panel at the front of the car and the grill which is connected below it are now loose and don't line up with the bumper properly.

Of course I now have all the problems of claiming for the damage via my Honda insurance. I have a £150 excess which they will help me to claim back from the other driver. I was supposed to be travelling to work 100 miles away tomorrow, but now I need to wait for the repair centre to contact me, tell me if they have a car I can borrow and wait for mine to be repaired.

I don't know some peoples driving standards today are poor
no very poor nope very very poor

I was in a car park yesterday and witnessed an accident
two cars parked side by side and as one car reversed out
it cliped the car next to it ( quite badly actually)

(I don't want to start the Women Driver Men Driver issue) but it was a woman driving as in your accident Parky.

Hope you get it all sorted quickly and get your car back on the road soon

I hope she admits liability, that's my big worry.
As there was no damage to her old Renault Megane (it was a bumper height thing), I guess she will not be claiming on her insurance so it will be in her benefit to say she did not do it. I don't have a witness to say she did, so I fully expect that I will somehow get the blame and loose my Excess and pay a higher premium next year.

On another note I have just discovered in the Honda insurance small print that the car is not insured (for Fire, Theft or Accidental Damage) between 10pm and 6am while parked at home unless it is in a locked garage or on a drive behind locked gates. They did not ask me about that when I took out the policy, they simply asked where it was overnight and I told them on my drive, they never insisted it was locked up. So not only have I got a damaged car I now find I am uninsured parked outside my own house!

Of course I have no proof of that conversation.

Forget the nit I have written above, I have now read even more small print and it appears that these Endorsements only apply if they are specifically mentioned on your actual policy. As the only one mentioned on mine is no 25 (which relates to under 25 year olds), it appears the car is actually insured when just parked on my drive.

It is worth checking your policy to see which Endorsements they may have applied to you.

I now notice that Honda Insurance is now provided by Sun Alliance and not Zurich (if you use the link from the Honda UK web site)

Angry Bad Drivers ...

Queens, NY is full of stupid drivers.. some of the streets out here are narrow in some places and some drivers take up the dead center of the street and expect everyone else to dodge them as they come down as if you aren't even there.. #$*&(#*&$ .. so now what I do is kinda play chicken with them... hehe ..and I've noticed that they just "ACT" as if they don't see me but when I play their same game (drive into the center of the road with them too) they're quick to drive onto their side of the road... grrrr.. where are the cops when you need them... too many idiots on the road..
sorry to hear about the idiot who backed up on your car dude..

How can she not claim liability? you were parked up she was the one doing all the moving.

It would be a crime if you have to pay anything, apart from your £150 excess which you will be able to claim back!

If she doesn't accept liability then stand your ground and don't let them settle on 50:50 claim either.

Im having the same problem with the guy that hit me, he says he was stationary and I hit him and without an independant witness its hard to prove otherwise!! My Insurance Co say they dont take in to account the type or extent of damage received, the whole thing is a joke.

The issue is that I have no 'proof' that she drove into me.
She could very easily say I drove into the back of her and then it would be her word against mine, plus she had a passenger who would no doubt agree with her.

You're right that is a joke, can't believe it what an utter 'bar steward'.

Might be a long shot Parky, but was there any CCTV around the station? might show what happened.

I will check to see if there is CCTV.

I have had a closer look at the damage today.
I removed the black cover that sits above the centre perspex grill.
It seems that the mounting points that hold the perspex grill in place have all been sheared off so the grill is just being held on by the black plastic cover.
I guess it's not going to be a cheap job as I'm not sure what the mounting points are actually part of, they could be part of the grill or the lights.

Don't worry about the passenger, I had one of those and they wont take his statement as he isnt independant.

I know how your feeling it is really annoying when you are not at fault, but she may admit liability an then all will be ok

Oh dear TC, you just don't get it.

They wouldn't accept your passenger as a witness because that would've been helpful to you. It is personal TC, that's why you have so many problems, cos the world really has got it in for you.

PS. Please don't go all girly & cry - only joking!
