Proof that the Type S has Magic Seats....
.... of sorts.
Was reading some threads from a month or two back about whether the Type S did or didn't have magic seats. While I was in the process of buying the car, the salesman told me that the seats were indeed magic, but needed unscrewed to let the squabs flip up - not so. The plastic cradle which the leg of the seat sits in has a spring loaded clip to hold the leg down (I don't think the 5 door has this clip ?) The only thing which isn't magic about them is that by folding the supporting leg down, they don't lock in an upright position, like they do in the 5 door (hence the seatbelts wrapped around the seats to hold them up). Hope this clears up any confusion. |

Surley it would be cheaper to fit the same rear seats in both the 3 & 5 doors! Whats the point of them not locking in the upright position?

Your idea of the seatbelt to secure them there seats sure lets you get a little extra bit of storage space in the back.

Do the seatbelts actually lock them up though -- looks like they'd slip forward to me? No idea why they did this. Must be some reason for it? I guess getting loads in there is harder with a 3-door.

Just thought, then having the seat crash down on it might not be such a good idea after all Got those wires tidied up yet? "I'm not a complete idiot. Some parts are on back order!" Charles H. |

If you pull the seatbelts right out to the end of their travel, they then make a ratcheting noise as they retract, and they do hold the seats up reasonably well.
This ratchet locking mechanism on the rear seat belts is usually used for attaching non-isofix child seats - apparently! True, the access isn't as easy, but I guess if you were wanting to put, say, a tall plant standing in the footwell, then it would work ? Would imagine putting a mountain bike in might be a bit difficult! |

What a great bit of lateral thinking, using the seat belts.
It did seem hugely pointless been able to lift the seats but not to be able to lock them. |
