In anticipation of a Type R - Choices???

Hey folks, well now that i have graduated and all that i am desperately looking for a job but sadly to know avail. However, when I am lucky enough to find a decent job I will most definately cashing in for a type r, no doubt about it.

My heart is set going jdm as long as i can find clean examples.

My question is, in which order would you rate an ek9, jdm ep3 or fd2?

i have a feeling most will opt fd2 but these start at around 15k and i honestly think that will be out of my price range. ATM i'm swaying towards a jdm ep3.

are they much different to edm ep3s and how would the fn2 stack up against it? bare in mind i have never driven a type r before but a few mates of mine have one and i have totally fallen in love!!

Appreciate any feed back

Tim

A JDM ep3 is probably twice as much to insure if you are 21 than a regular ep3.

Go test drive them all, we can't decide for you!

Like the man said, test drive them yourself, everyone is different so it's only your opinion that counts.

JDM EP's come with about 10/12bhp as standard an LSD, and a thicker anti-roll bar.

Depending on whether it's Facelift or Pre-Facelift - you will get the red interior (red detailed door cards, red carpet, all red Recaro's) being a JDM you often get the JDM wind deflectors, mats, and OEM trinkets like coin holders/CF dash bits etc. etc included with the car - I don't think I've ever seen a JDM without these things - which are desirable, and come at a massive premium these days due to them becoming harder to come across new/discontinued.

If it were me - I'd go with the JDM EP3.

I love EK9's but they're getting to the stage where low-mileage clean examples will be difficult to get a hold of. They're verging on 10-12+ years old, so they're not getting any younger - the best examples will start to suffer from Wear- it's to be expected.

The FD2, is meant to be an awesome machine - it's quite new still, and therefore quite expensive. I'm not a fan of the looks - that's not to say that I haven't seen them looking great. I've not driven one to compare, but I have heard they're pretty amazing.

Have you not considered a DC5? This loses the practicality of a hatch, but does offer a more focussed performance than an EP3, without being as uncompromising as an EK9 - and though they command a premium, it will not be as much as an FD2, and will still be easy to get a clean low-miles example, because they were produced up to 2006-2007 IIRC.

Don't forget HIDS as standard and you will have to run it on Super Unleaded to get the best out of it.

But out of the three I would agree with TypeRiter, the JDM EP3 is the least compromised with regards to cost, age and ride quality. And I also agree you should look at a DC5 before you decide. Has the best of the EK9 and EP3 rolled into one package.

I would check your insurance quote again though, as it's an import it should be an automatic highest group insurance shouldn't it? Don't just insure it as a regular UK EP3.

But without a full time job i would mnot be able to afford running costs just yet.

I'm wondering why you're thinking of getting an older car than your Type S GT? If I were you I'd look at a nearly new FN2 Type R GT, they're very reasonably priced plus you'll get some warranty. With owning a Type S myself I don't think I could go to an older Civic, even if an R, mainly because the interiors aren't a patch on the spaceship newer ones. You don't get much kit either. Am I just thinking too sensibly here?

At your age my friend, it's all about the Insurance Premium.
Check out the Insurance on your choices - I believe that will define the model Civic for you.

ok so i checked the dc5 through moneysup[ermarket. on entering the registration of one on autotrader it comes up quite rightly as an import but its listed as honda civic type r and not as an integra dc5? anyone know why? and if I was to say purchase this insurance surely it wouldn't be right as it says civic type r?

I have tried a lot of different teg's and all are being listed as civic type r's but still shown as imports.

price is a good'n

tbh im not really concerned about the age as long as the milage is reasonable and the car is clean. I really have my heart set on jdm and hence the reason why no fn2 disite its lovely looks and interior. Again as I'm still only 22, I don't particularly need too much practicality with a car atm. Want something fun and that I am going to keep for a long long time.

Besides the girlfriend can get a practical car ill stick with one which is raw and a joy to drive. Just need to test drive a jdm ep3, edm ep3 and a dc5
