Jacking points - strange clips

Hi all,

just picked up my new diesel yesterday and have given it the once-over.
Whilst having a wee grovel around underneath to locate the jacking points, I discovered some white plastic clips, each with a piece of white fibrous padding (looks like glass fibre with a black paper or plastic surface on one side) between the clip and the car body.
There are 6 of these clipped onto the seam that runs along the underside of the sill where the jacking points are. There is one either side, just astern of the front jacking point and two each side, a few inches fore and aft of the rear jacking point.

My guess is that these should have been removed before the car left the factory and that they serve no useful purpose now.
However I would welcome the advice of the more experienced Civic fanciers on here as to whether I can just bin them.

Many thanks,

Lobey.

PS - brilliant site, full of sage advice

Hi Lobey dosser,

Found these strange clips on mine about 4 months after owning mine, I assumed as you that they should have been taken off before I took delivery.
I think they must have been for transportation or something so took them off and threw them away.
Jobs a gud un!!!!

OMG! they are all that is holding the chassis to the bodywork!

Actually, I have no idea what they do, and I haven't actually even noticed them on mine, so they may well not be doing what I described above
(sorry, to good a chance to miss )

I found these on mine as well. Service manager said they were for transportation protection and should have been removed when it was going through it's PDI.

I have already wanted to ask it also...
I don't think they have a sense either and I have already lost 1-2... The white clip has broken on two pieces and it was under the car..

Heres a pic about the clip:

these clips with the foam on that you are refering to should be removed on the pdi check as they cover body drain holes.just pull them off if you find any !! potentially if left on your car could turn into a fish bowl !!!

Well they were also left on mine and I asked the dealer what they were and he said exactly what everyone here is saying.

Given that it sounds like these must be removed as they cover drain holes, it is worrying that so many are being left on.

Thanks to all for the swift replies.
The clips did seem pointless but it's good to have it confirmed by the experts.

I shall remove them as soon as I can prize the car out of the sticky little hands of Lady Dosser.

The clips are there to hold the pad in place and that's there to catch any excess body protection wax that's applied to prevent corrosion.
Both clip and pad should be removed at PDI by the dealer (there are 4 one close to each jacking point). If they're still on best remove them to allow the drain hole to drain.

That probably explains why there are driving that much fish bowls around

Don't have any fish bowl problems, but will certainly check...

Best to check the drainage holes are clear, in case the pads were missing in the first place.

Yes join the club, I found 3 on either side (6) and have also removed them. When I asked the dealer why they were nt removed, they just replied they can be left as they are nt important and not needed, and it did nt matter. I would nt mind but these guys do this job day in and day out!

Bloody Honda should offer the guys who run this forum at least one million quid for it.
No, - more than that.
It would save them money in the end.
But then, if Honda got their hands on it, they would probably b-gger it up like so many other things.
Mr Honda must be turning in his grave. Quality control is all we want.

So leaving sponge like material which is likely to retain water close to metal is unimportant.

According to HondaTech some time ago they should have been removed at PDI. I wonder why they were put on in the first place? What do/did they protect?
