Anyone put Bikes in the car yet?

I'm getting a bike for my birthday and I'm really looking forward to folding up the magic seats and putting the bike in, however I'm just wondering if there is something you can buy to hold the bike steady and minimise the grub rubbing off the bike onto my lovely car interior?

Has anybody put bikes in their car yet, and how did you find it?

Ive had 2 in the back of my car with the magic seats folded up.

You have to take of the front wheel of the bikes and they go in fine. I secured mine in place using the seat belts.

To prevent any scratches to the car interior I put a blanket on the floor and used a couple of old sheets of bubble wrap to protect the doors (a bit overkill and probably not necessary but better safe than sorry)

I transport my bikes like this all the time (every weekend) and there is not a mark in the car.

It's great because you can leave the bikes locked in the car when you are away, and you can still put all your other stuff in the boot.

Its so cool

Thanks for the reply Daren.

Do I have to take the front wheel off - will it fit in otherwise?

I put my racing bike and my sons BMX in all the time. As said leaves the boot free, without having a cycle carrier to negotiate. There is a Honda part for use when carrying bikes in the back, I think its about £70.

I need to take the front wheel from mine to get it in the back.
The problem is that if you turn the front wheel to the side it get it in, the handlebar sticks out instead LOL

I guess it might work if you drove along with the handle sticking out the (wound down) window

Thats the easiest way, most bikes now come with a quick release front wheel so you should easily be able to take it off in seconds and without tools. It makes it so much easier to get in the back of the car.... in fact I am not sure if they would fit at all without taking off the front wheel.

I would get the shop where you get your bike from to give you a quick demo on how to take the wheel off and on - I know it sounds simple (and when you know how it is) but you may have to disconnect your brakes - they can show you - again simple when you know how.

Picked my Grandson up from school yesterday, as it was raining and he had his scooter (Just a kids thing, NOT A Vespa!) with him.

The scooter fitted very neatly in the back, without the need to bring out the magic seats

He sat very happily on his booster seat and waved to his friends, telling/shouting them that he's in Grandad's NEW Honda (See, he IS being brought up correctly!).

Happily got him home with his Mum and I returned to base.

Poor old (nearly new anyway) Millie.

The back of my seat looked like a ploughed field with his footprints!

I don't know what size shoes he takes, but he ain't wearing them in Millie any more!

"Diet Coke with Lemon? Didn't that used to be called Pledge?"

Not overkill at all. I didn't do what you did and now I have a scuff mark on one of the doors. So a good idea and I have covered the bike since then. I also need to take off the front wheel.

I lay my 2 bikes(hybrids and quite large) flat in the rear with the seats folded.Woul'*** go in (with the front wheels removed) through the back doors .Not too much of a problem-a bonus that they go in complete

You can get 2 full size mountain bikes in the boot of a Type - R with the seats down, although you should put some blankets down AND between the bikes

And when you're ready you get a sadomasochist certificate I guess a decent bike rack is necessary with a 2-door car, or a roofbar but that costs a lot of fuel

If, like me, you're going out on your mountain bike every week, believe me you'll tire very quickly of shoving a filthy bike in the back of the car - even with blankets / sheets / bubble wrap. I'd like to get roof bars and stick the bike there, out of the way. This is just my opinion as I'm out at night in the forests and the last thing I need to do on a wintery, freezing, cold evening is worrying about where my bike is going to go! I need to get in the car and get it warmed up ASAP

T'would be nice if there was a compatible rear bike rack for the Civic also...

You need to be careful that the Duralia and the chainset don't get caught in the blanket as the fluff and catching could damage them...
Just thought i would mention...
