Question Things I would like to see in a software update

Somethings can probably be improved through software updates.
Other things not.
Somethings it is difficult for us to know with out having the source code and schematics.

What would you like to see in a software update?

MP3 & SatNav & HFT improvements

On SATNAVed Civics:-

1 Remove the need for folders on the CD and use MP3 tag info for Artist/Album selection.

2 Use the full width of the display, or even have more than one line for the currently playing track info (the display is big enough!). It could then display the full Artist/Album/Track details.

3 Keep the track list in step with playing track.

4 Get rid of the bl**dy nag screen!

5 List POIs in the UK, not just continental Europe.

6 Provide better night settings for the display or allow permanent cutomisation by the owner. I'm colour blind and NONE of the options lets me see the roads against the background. I have to use daytime colours with the brightness/contrast turned down, which means I have to set it evreytime it goes dark outside.

7 Let the HFT use the phone's address book and not have to program in your "favourites" to the car.

8 Display who is calling you on that nice big display!

That's my wish list.

Everything STX1300man says, especially customisation of the satnav colour and making use of the full display width.

Tweek Drive-by-wire characteristics to get rid of jerkiness when crawling.

Provide selectable ECU maps, Economy, Sport, etc.

Better control (automatic) of instrument brightness.

A user offset for the climate control to correct for inaccuracy.

A speed limiter system.

Reprogram the auto headlights to correct deficiencies.

Cant see the point in that. Have an important safety feature switched off as standard would just be silly.

Sat Nav Software

Ability to upload your own POI's by burning either txt, CSV or OV2 files onto a CD (similar to the firmware option in the hidden menu). I know this might be limited by the amount avalible RAM, but would usefull if we could load some at least!

- Have the "low fuel" indicator come one only once on a trip, not every time you press a button on the onboard computer.
- Scrolling display for MP3's (non-satnav, don't know how it's like if you do have satnav)
- Faster mp3 starting/switching
- Auto folding mirrors on lockdown
- Allow the folding mirrors to work if contact is on I (only works now when it's on II) Or allow the folding mirrors to works for some period after the car has been shut down
- Put an option in there to turn a "Daylight running lights" feature on. So that when I start the car, the lights come on, whether it's dark or not. (here in The Netherlands, we usually drive with the lights on all the time, I think it's safer, too)

Can you not use discs with all files in the root on a satnav Civic.
On a non-satnav it works.

I sometime like to have my left in the normal position as 'marker points' for other cars when on car parks. A bit like sticking your elbows out when you're in a crowd!

I drive with my lights on all the time as I like to think I am more visible (not that it appears to work that often). I'd like this feature too.

Perhaps we should re-phrase it 'option for auto mirror fold on lock down'

On the TT the windows all wound up if you held the 'lock' button on the remote for a few seconds (it didn't have foldy mirrors tho).
Something like that would do it for me

Yes you can put them all in the root the directory, but then you can't select an album to play. If all the tracks are tagged correctly, and all in the root directory, it should be possible to list the albums on the CD and then select one for playing. This feature is in several PC media players.

On the 2006 models there was this feature to enable ”auto locking” of the doors when starting to drive, if I’m not mistaking. This feature was removed on the 2007 models. It would be nice to have that back again.

I'd like to remove the annoying beep when key is the I position and driver's door is open. Whenever I want to listen to music with my door open it's driving me mad

I do hope someone at Honda HQ reads this forum.

Anyway, I'd like to see:
  • Follow me home lights
  • Auto folding door mirrors to fold when driver has exited
  • Headlights activated if there have been at least 3 swipes of wiper
  • POI updated to include Fast Food restaurant IN the UK
  • Name of caller on the screen (MOST IMPORTANT FOR ME)
  • Better gear change on the i-SHIFT
That's it. I reckon most things (apart from Name of caller on screen) can be done via a software re-write or upgrade.
