Civic Advert
Clever though the advert for the new Civic is, I find it intensely annoying. Does it really advertise the car? I don't think so. Nobody has bought a Civic on the strength of that advert, I wager. Honda UK would be better to have the Civic on camera the whole time. The radical futuristic looks of the car alone would sell. What do other members think?

Must admit I'm with you, thought the advert was great but had no idea of the good looks of the car. Wasn't till months later that I stumbled upon one whilst browsing round a few forecourts in fact I had dismissed it once thinking it was 2 doors !!!!

The one in Sweden was a NHB Civic driving through an empty city with a Marilyn Manson soundtrack (Tainted Love). I´ve seen it on YouTube at some point but couldn´t find it now.
In the UK there is one with a choir making car noises. Last edited by FWH; 2nd July 2007 at 19:54. |

Yeah, it doesn't really show off the Civic very well. I think Honda are relying on the car itself (on the road) to do the talking, the ad itself is kinda mysterious don't you think? Leaving you and potential Honda Civic owners wanting more? Like you said its a clever ad.....

Yeah, thats the only one I've seen do I guess its the one this thread was started about. But Woah! Thats clearly the full version, quite cool but at 2 mins 10secs that'll never be on Tv, the one ive seen lasted about 25secs!

Compared with most of the other car ads, which are invariably designed to be a bit quirky but nevertheless 'samey' or, imply you're sure to get a shag if only you buy the particular model, I did think the Honda Civic one made you stop and look/think a bit.
So I guess you can put me in the "...well I liked it" camp. Anthony. |

Nice one Copcatz! That advert was ******* great!!! Can see why it affected your decision. Miles better than the UK one. Glad I saw it. Cheers

I had bought my Civ before seeing the advert on tv, but I remember turning to Mrs WoolyCiv and saying that if I had seen the advert first, I wouldn't even have gone to look at one.
I thought it was one of the cruddiest ads on tv, unlke the renault, VW, Audi, Merc - oh just about all the other car ads. |

I'm not sure the 'racey' one could be shown in the UK. If I recall, you're not allowed to advertise a car on the premise that it goes quickly. It could be argued that that ad does.
Generally I think Honda ads are good. The Choir one is clever, but could do with some more of the car in view. I don't think the Civic needs advertising now... |
