No, the Thule rapid fit system doesn't require you to do any of that. The kit itself when coupled with the footpack sits on the edge of the roof near to the door sills. So, it'll be exactly the same installation process as with your Alfa 156, Great Soprendo.

Honda's roof rack uses the bolts under the trim (see TT's photo) and is therefore attached in a completely different way. So, in a nutshell, it has nothing to do with how Thule the system works!

Thanks for clearing that up - very glad to hear it - though on the Alfa, the Thule footpack does 'interact' with the manufacturers fittings for the roof rack (it's a kind of bolt under the rubber around the door which the footpack hooks over).

Smile Roof rack

Hi

I have a question about the photo's you placed on Civicinfo. With the lease i ordered the exact same roof bars.

My question is the following, cause i am new to this i don't know if you can fit any roof rack or that you got to have an orginal honda accessoire. I believe mine are suitable for 30 kilograms.

I am planning my summer holiday in Engeland in a month so i would like to know what i have to arrange.

Thnx for any reply's

Johnny

Roof Bars

I need a rack for my S type and Thule dont seem to know when/if they will produce one, so it looks like it will have to be the official Honda one.
Anyone know how the dealers cut the roof strip to access the fitting bolts? Remove the whole roof strip from the car to cut it, then refit, or do they somehow cut it in situ?

They took the strips off cut them and put them back on when they did mine.

Well I fitted the same Honda roof rack some weeks ago. It took me 4 hours to remove the 2 trims and mount the roof rack. At the front window they were difficult to take loose without damaging some plastic placeholders that are under the trims. And of course you need a plastic screwdriver. With metal, you can hurt the glass!!
So I made a tool from a peace of wood.
The roof rack / or bars are very nice and of great quality.

I also heard that for Thule roof boxes, you will need another U-shaped clamps. The original ones seems to be to short. So that's indead true.

I have a Probox / Hapro roofbox and this one fits well.

Yes they remove the whole strip and cut it into 3 peaces. I did it myself, as told above.
After the summer holiday I will remove the rack. Then I can see if water didn't find it's way under the rubber feets. I also hope that the 4 plastic caps will do their job well and keep water out of the roof gutter

I bought the Roof bars From my Honda Dealer for £162.68.
I fitted them myself onto my Type S GT in just over Half an hour.
You don't need to remove the whole strip if you start from the back i just put a towel over the glass and cut the strip in situ.It was really easy. You can get the strip off using a credit card and your fingers.
On the bits of trim that you throw away I removed the White plastic clips and have kept them as spares(just in case).
I think the plastic covers are pretty cheap and nasty and will break easily.I told the dealer this and he ordered me a spare set and gave me them for free.

Thanks for the photos. That's helped make up my mind about Honda vs Thule rack.

Off to order the Thule one now!

I've got Thule roof bars specifically for the civic.
More than happy with them.
Take them on and off quickly and generally use them to transport ladders.
They were cheaper than the Honda bars and looking at the Honda bar photos earlier on this thread, I'm glad I chose Thule aerobars.
There is no cutting into the roof, once removed it's back to how it was when I bought it.
Got the bars in May and have put them on and taken them off about 5 times since then.
I would definitely recomend the Thule one's. Got them from a company called Snow chains of Europe on the net. (At least I think that was the name, should come up via Google). The bars and fitting kit and delivery was £129.00.

Well I took mine off last yesterday. No problems at all. Just a case of not to tighten the screws. Tight is Tight as we say overhere.

Now I hope that with the 4 plastic covers the strips will last long and waterproof. That's the only thing I worry about for the future (and that the covers will be re-usable after dismounting them next sommer if I need the roof rack again....

Can anyone confirm the dimensions of the roof bars?

I'm hoping to get the honda roof bars and then fit some Thule Bike Racks to the bars.

I guess they should fit but further info would be nice.

Any chance of a photo of the Thule rack in place? I had one for my previous cars (Carina, Corolla and Accord) so I'm happy with the quality, but I would like to see how it fits on the Civic's awkward roof. Thanks.
