Roof Bars for my NHB Civic ES
Hi i'm picking up my new civic this coming friday and was wanting to fit a roof bar to the car.
Has anyone purchased the Honda roof bar for around £200 and if so does it bolt directly on to the roof or does it use the little clamps which fit around under the doors?? Not sure if it makes any difference but i do have the glass roof. Real good web site by the way!!! |

Hi and welcome
I have the honda roof bars on my civic type s and yes they do bolt directly onto the roof onto brackets hidden under the black strips, you can get the clamps as well they are an extra £50 and increases the load capacity of the roof, which as you have the glass roof you may want to consider depending on what you are carrying. I think the load capacity with a glass roof is 35kg without the clamps and 50kg with the clamps (from memory probably worth asking when you get them). Are you having them fitted as the dealers? I know someone on here has done it themselves and said it was a pain as you have to take out the black strips and cut them with a hacksaw. Mine were fitted as part of the deal when I bought the car. Tomthumb took some great photos the link is here, they show all the fitting etc. Roof Rack photo's Oh and check out the wiki on what to check for when picking up your new car, its worth a look. http://www.civinfo.com/wiki/index.php?title=New_car_checklist |

I'm new here too - just got my 2.2 ES on Monday.
Do a search on "roof bars", and you'll find a few threads. But I'm pretty confused myself - there appears to be a big split into what works, what may kill your painwork, how good the Honda system is, what the true weight limits are for a glass roof etc. |

i have had a look at the thread which states how to cut the plastic strip to fit the feet, but the glass roof on the es i saw this morning just seems to have a rubber channel running the full length of the roof, like a gully??
no signs of the studs or the hard plastic cover for the gully? the channel appears to be a soft rubber seal? are the bolt holes for the roof bars under this? |

Sorry Lloyd, not sure as I dont have the glass roof so mine just has the plastic strips, but i would have thought so, ask the dealers when you pick it up or better still get him to fit it for you. The price of £200 should include fitting anyway. I think one of the dealers have offered the bars as a DIY part for less without the fitting so it would be worth sending them a PM if you are thinking of fitting them yourself.

The bars were delayed, but should be having them fitted this coming weekend by the dealer so i'll post some pics then. Did not fancy hack sawing the drainage channel my self, so honda Stratford said they would fit them included in the price. (if they are not too flloded!!
