Idea being toyed with - feedback appreciated.

Just read the surveys (which I can't partake due to not being a Civic owner) and I see a couple of mentions about the key.
Just curious as to who would be interested and what price (realistic) you'd consider opting for a folding keyfob?
Not much of a mod as such, but I know I HATE the key as it currently is.
The way I'm thinking of this is it'll not require re-programming for the immobiliser - only the blank cut, but other things will need to be addressed which I won't bore you with.

I am absolutely not interested. I really don't care about how a key looks like. I just need it to start my car, that's it.

I would be more interested in keyless entry and keyless start.

I hope they will introduce a folding key in the 08 models, since I intend to buy one when they arrive. But I don't really think it will happen... It's not a big deal, but would be nice anyway.

You got around that very nicely, without saying keyless.

Do you know how many Civics they have sold in France?

Back on topic - I would like a folding key, but it would need to be compatible with the immobislier.
There is another thread by another crazy Swede about this called "mod the key" or something.
http://www.civinfo.com/forum/electronics/6251-has-anyone-tried-mod-key-3.html#post90390

But you mean adding something ( a fob ) around the key and putting spring action in that?
Would it not be very big when open?
Do you have some sketches you could post on your concept?

What essentially I am looking at is taking a fob with blank and having a mounld made that would allow each user to transplant their current key's electronics into.
That way, there's no faffing about with the expense of having to get the dealer to re-programme the key.
Of course, doing so is only worth thinking about if there are a decent number of willing participants.
The shape of the Honda electronics means a new top mould needs to be made, which is what I need to look into as far as cost is concerned.
The size advantage of the key is not it's open state, but the smaller and more comfortable shape when in your trouser pocket.

Not interested....Fine as it is. Folding ones are to big. No keyless entry. Imagine swopping the car and still having the thing in the pocket. My wife would kill me as she cannot start the car again when she stopped it somewhere else. Asuming the spare is not at hand ofcourse.

Can we please forget about keyless entry.
If you had wanted that, you'd have bought a Renault or Mercedes.
If you want keyless, I'll see about getting one designed, but we'll need at least 50, if not 100 to proceed, and at £1500 a touch, inc. fitting, I'll give you 2 cards - one for you and one for the missus.
Jeez, you ask a simple question and you get a bunch of replies relating to something entirely different.
Did I do something in previous existence to deserve this?
