civic 4x4
recently needed to replace a relatively new trye (7000 miles) after falling into one of those famous potholes in Liverpool. Now awaiting the results of a claim againgst the Highways Agency.
I have a civic 2.2 i-cdti sport and while I love the car I am beginning to think that the suspension and wheel/tyre configuration are just impractical for an urban environment given the poor state of the roads and that I may need to change. What do others think? Is this a merseyside problem or nation wide? |

Perhaps that is the idea.
Make roads so bad, no one will drive on them and they will not need any repairs at all in that situation. Then there will be more money for the Government Think Tanks and junkets. "If your parents never had children, The chances are that you won't either!" Charles H. |

Move into France... Most of our roads are in a good shape (for the moment) Motorway are in the best shape (except in Paris suburbs and in other heavy traffic areas). Our secondary roads are better than more A class roads i the UK But it may change in the near future. Government pass the A road responsibility from a national scheme to a local one... |

It varies depending on the council. The car-unfriendly Sheffield council have comically bad roads, whereas Cambridge (whilst banning cars from the center) has very very good roads indeed. they seem to constantly resurface roads here.

It also depends on climate.
The freezing cold and metal studed tyres we have do their part to our roads. Some of the worst roads (outside of places like Africa) I have seen are in parts of the US where they get cold winters are humid summers. That really tears up the roads and I those regions I understand people wanting SUVs, but when talking to them that is not why they bu them, they just want something big.... Also some CEE countries (or parts of) have the habit of resurfacing without leveling out the holes and ruts. So you sometimes get nice new tarmac on a terrible surface! |

I know, Millie and I love doing our 120k going back to the Shuttle. Mind you with all that wine in the back, she sounds like a milk float! The bridges on the motorways, honestly, with their statues look great also. "I took the wife's family out for tea and biscuits the other day. They weren't too keen on the giving blood bit tho'!"
