Just found out I have winter tyres on the back!
Hi guys just had my annual service and the garage pointed out I have dunlop winter tyres of the back wheels! Should I change them/ put them on the front or keep them in the garage to put on the front next winter. I have just driven around for a year with them in the back wheels! I know nothing about tyres so any advise would be appreciated. thanks

Less grip in the summer, usually increased tyre wear and more road noise.
Notably though, the loss of grip using winter tyres in summer is much less than using summer tyres in winter so if you can put up with the wear and noise (you must have been if you've had them for a year) and can't afford to change then there's no real reason to rush out and do so - it's just better to save them for winter and get summer tyres on now! You sure they're winter tyres and not "all-season"s? |

When temperatures go above 7 degrees, there isnt much advantage to having winter tyres on. The rubber gets too flexible and overheat and the car will have worse handling/stopping power. Combined with dry tyres in the front you could be in for a surprise.
Next winter, make sure you run winter tyres on all FOUR corners, not just the front. If not you could again be in for a surprise. Last edited by Woette; 18th April 2012 at 10:48. |

Ah if it was me and you are a respectable driver id just leave them on until they need to be changed. Had them on a rear wheel skyline before and they would spin out in 4th!
