Smile Seat Comfort

Hello, I have had a 2007 Civic SE for 24 hours while my previous shape 2005 Civic was being serviced, and got on ok with the new model apart from feeling quite uncomfortable in the driver's seat. It seems to have too much lumbar support for my liking.

Has anyone had the same problem and how did you resolve it?

I need to sort this out as I am due a new Motability car next year and don't want to change from a Honda as my current Civic and dealer have been fantastic.

Cheers

No.
I think the seats are ok for this size of car.
Nothing like a Mercedes or something, but compared to Astras and stuff I think they are fine.

I changed from a previous 04 Civic to the new Civic about a month ago.

The driver environment on the new Civic is much more sporty and I found the seats more coseting, but not uncomftable.

It's a case of trying different adjustments to find your ideal position.
I am sure you will get used to it.

Compared to the car I PXed (a 2003 Focus ST170) the car is very comfortable. My dad had a BMW 1 series and it's much more comfy than that was too

Its funny, I seemed fairly comfy when driving the car but once out of it I had quite painfull backache, which is unusual for me. The seats seem like sitting on a big comfy sofa!

Personally i've driven a lot of cars that i thought gave too much lumbar support and were uncomfortable, but i think that the civic is pretty darn good!

As already stated, it's a case of playing with the seat adjustments to get the ideal position.

And then your other half driving it buggering it up and you having to move it all over again the next day.

That sounds like the voice of experience !
My missus is only 5 '2" so our settings are quite different.

Being of more ample proportions, I find the seat bases a little narrow and feel like I'm sitting on the raised sides of the seat rather than in between them.
However, I've done a 4 hour non-stop stretch at the wheel with no discomfort and felt absolutely fine at the end of it so I''m sure you'll find them OK, Wheelchair.

I find the driving position not as comfortable as , say, a Focus. I think it's to do with the slightly offset driving position. I feel fine while driving, but I do ache a bit when I get out. I do get a bit of a stiff right arm while driving though (I'm 6' 1").

Mind you, I have been driving other cars for a couple of months or so, so I suppose my body will have to get used to the 'Civic Style' again.

I find I get back ache in mine if I am in it for too long which thankfully is not often, it is not as comfortable as my focus was.

Think it is something you will have to try and get used to an put up with but you have only had the car a short while you will probably adjust so it doesnt seem as bad.

I was also concerned about seat comfort on a long journey, after the very comfy seats in the Focus (which have lumbar adustment). But we travelled down to RR's meet in Oxfordshire and found the seats fine.
I agree with LobyDosser, the seat seems a bit narrow.

I find the seats very comfortable, even though i'm 1.98m tall. Even after driving for several hours, there's no discomfort at all. I did expect lumbar adjustment on a new car of this price. Too bad they left that out.

Few cars in this size / price range have lumbar support adjustment I find.

I have a pair of sheepskin seat covers('drape' pattern in black by Easyrider co.).They are superb for improving the comfort of my car's seats. They don't move around, and look fine too.Not cheap, but I honestly cannot rate them too highly

I have had back problems since I was in a crash 12 years ago
and find the seats more than comfortable
we have leather interior - don't see how that would make much of a difference tho

I find getting into the seat whilst avoiding the corner of the dash a 'manoeuvre' but once I'm in and belted I find it OK.

Maybe it's the hard suspension aggravating any back problems?

I used to have upper rear leg cramps on previous cars after a few hours but not on the Civic.

I initially had back aches after a long journey, but when i played around with the position I found making the chair back more upright completely got rid of it. Annoying as i would like to be able to slouch back a bit in london traffic, but its really good for long distance. As for overall comfort, of course its not the best in the market, its not a merc, however its good for its class i think.

I like the way the seats hold you in place well, in Focii I always found myself sliding around a lot, once you find a comfortable seat position in the Civic you stay there! I used to get aches until I played with the settings a little.

My last 2 cars had lumber support, and I almost didn't buy the Civic because it didn't have it! However I chose the leather option which, probably co-incidental, seems to have avoided the problem. Still no adjustable support, however.
