Help! Chunk of metal has come off the car!

Evening all,
I was just parking round the corner from where i live, to turn around i went to go in a small parking area that was guarded by some bollards that fold down....as i went over, it must have caught on something as a metal plate thats been a little loose for a while now has come clean off.

In the process its also twisted a bit of plastic down thats scraping on the road.

Car still seems fine, no leaks that i can see, and above where the plate was feels to be some sort of "cottoney" material.

Anyone know what is thats happened? What part has come off and what effect will that have on the car?

Also, whats the best way to get rid of that bit of plastic? Cut it off?

Thanks.

Where abouts on the underside is the problem, might be easier to assist if we know the location

Near the front. Just out of arms reach if you try to it from the front of the car.

The metal plate is very thin and is silver in colour if that helps.

My one came loose if your on about the metal plate under the engine, but I soon rectified it. And it doesn't affect your engine its just a cover. Either rectify it yourself or get the garage to sort it. But your car will be fine so if thats what it was don't worry.

3 pictures attached.

One is a view from the passenger side, one from the front, and the last is the plate that has come off.

Whats the conclusion then?
Exhaust heatshield or inspection plate?

And any issues with it being 'not there' ?

It serves no real purpose apart from keeping the underside of your engine clean and tidy thats the only reason I keep mine on. Plus whilst I'm working in Germany its a good Idea as they have rodents here that chew through your engine hoses and wires so it acts as a defence system aswell for me.

Took it to a local kwik-fit, let me jack it up for free.
Heatshield. And the plastic, not a clue, but there doesnt appear to be any other damage underneath there.

Although what was odd were some zip-ties....the only company/person to be under the car to get to the bit above that bit (gear box) since ive got it was ABP a few years ago, surely not...
