Have you had a modification nightmare.

Just a bit of fun.

Have any of the Civinfo members had modification hell?

Perhaps you've spent all day applying a decal only to be told by your other half it looks naf.

Or maybe you've started a simple mod that you thought would take half an hour and you've still been at it at 11 o'clock at night.

Have you bought a piece of kit only to find when you get it home that it's not for your car after all.

Or you've bought piece of kit and when you've gone to you fit it it doesn't work. Or worse it doesn't work and you exchange it and fit the replacement only to find that has problems also.

Tell you mod nightmares here.

Eco display
Trying to get the droplinks off... just wouldn't play nice so had to get the torch on it.

Similarly for the top strut bolt!

Fitting Boot Strut-Brace; The allen hole was starting to shear with every minor turn (cheap honda bolt GRRR)
Managed to passive-aggressivly gently force it out (sounds contradictory but it's how it went )

Used impact gun to get the nut back on so all is well
(5-10 min' job total)

Hmm where to start,

New battery, terminals too small.

James's brake discs, old ones wouldn't come off and he snapped a drill bit inside the hole whilst drilling out m-8 screws.

D1 spec earth kit, all lugs wrong size and the clamp didn't want to fit the battery.

Double din conversion, plastic fascia didn't want to fit and broke some of the glovebox when removing as I missed a screw.

Fitted steering wheel controls at a later date and ended up blowing up the PCB board which was £60 to replace the steering controls were only £3

Ultra racing front and rear struts, the rear was a pig to get in, the front was easy but you can't access the oil cap or dipstick with it installed.

Rally stayle mud flaps, easy job I thought started about 7pm (2 cars to do) both fronts were done in about 20mins then I realised the rear wheels had to come off I finished about 11pm

Changing a fog light bike without removing the bumper.....

The list goes on

CD Player nightmare

Well my stock CD player completely stopped reading CDs so I bought a double din stereo and conversion kit, but then read you lose some steering wheel controls even with the best adapter kit, so I decided to cancel that and get a stock unit from an ebay seller instead. The unit was described in 'good working order' but I got it fitted by a Honda dealer which cost £99, but I can't even insert a CD with this one as the feeder mechanism is broken. Having to do a Paypal dispute and even if I get a full refund will likely end up £99 out of pocket, and still need a replacement CD player

Where did you read that? Don't want to rub salt into the wound, but I have a JVC double din and volume and skip track buttons work perfectly....

I read it on here. Apparently you can't hold the + or - button to skip to next music folder or cycle through radio stations with those buttons.

Impulse even confirmed that so reluctantly gave up on the double din idea. I use those controls a lot so would really miss them. So do yours work perfectly?

Strange, I have a Pioneer double din with the Impulse adapter, and all my steering wheel controls work. Volume works fine, + and - cycles through tracks (even when playing music via Bluetooth from my phone) and radio stations, and the mode button changes between sources (tuner, CD, AV, AUX, USB/iPod or iPhone etc.).

Not sure about holding the + and - to skip to the next folder as I've never had my music stored that way.

That is strange. I read it here on post 426:

Great news (about removing the head unit)

I asked Bob at Impulse and sent him a link to the Kenwood double din I was getting and he confirmed I'd lose those functions. Maybe some units work different?

Yeah maybe it is the unit you choose.

Well incase you change your mind and decide to buy a double din, I have the Pioneer AVH-2400BT. Not sure how well it suits your needs, but I have all my steering wheel functions intact, I just can't confirm about switching folders.

Similar thing happened to me,B-plate mk2 XR2 no antifreeze wrecked the engine.
Got a new one from an E-plate and done the swap in my parents front drive, easy peasy. Couldn't get the bugger to start, discovered ignition module was on distributer cap on new engine where the original was on the bulkhead.

Couple of scotch-locks and spade terminals later and it ran like a dream.
