This is why I always try and park next to a more expensive (and obviously well looked-after) vehicle than my own. That guy with the half-a-mil car probably looks after it just as I look after mine- hopefully...

So what, two wrongs don't make a right.

I despise people with that attitude.

That is most certainly not true.

Respect levels are considerably lower than 30 years ago, for sure. Depends on upbringing and mentality. But there are always good and bad of every generation.

If everybody couldn't give a **** as you suggest, then it would be a very very sad world we live in.

I suppose I was shaking the hornet's nest with the topic and maybe should have known better. Everyone has their own opinion on what is acceptable or not re: parking spaces.

Personally I still think using up two or more spaces is unacceptable, but since this incident, in an empty car park i'd be more tempted to park in a parent/child space. Not a disabled space however.

We'll see. It wasn't in a supermarket car park anyway I can tell you that much. It was either at work or at home... but yeah no CCTV present at either location. And I always try to either park as far away from other cars as possible, or next to the nicer cars for the reasons already spoken about earlier. The times I had been out to my car, there was noone next to me. Whoever did it, did it and drove off quickly.

Yeah, you're right there are a lot of differing opinions as to what is and isn't acceptable concerning this subject.

Unfortunately, as we all know, sometimes **** happens and we have to accept it and get on with it. Shame there was no CCTV.

Anyway, sorry to hear about the damage and hope you get it sorted asap.

All the best,
Steve

Shame about your paintwork.

But taking two spaces? Really?

You are asking for trouble. Sooner or later you will catch the eye of the wrong person at the wrong time and your car will get keyed, booted or tyres slashed. And nobody will have any sympathy.

As a parent with a toddler and a baby, and more to the point someone with zero patience with ignorant people, I absolutely despise those who park in family or disabled spaces for no other reason than they think there car is something special.

Closely followed by those who disregard the spaces entirely in favour of plonking their car right in front of the supermarket doors. They do that because they are better than everyone else, don't they?

If it annoys people then why not wait and ask why they have parked in 2 you may get a legitimate answer like the next vehicle was in 2 which made your bay half and half (does happen seen it myself) or they might be disabled or even a parent who couldn't get in a wide space so parked like it to get the kids out, which in my eyes are good reasons. To damage a vehicle on purpose because they have took 2 spaces up is wrong and disgusting. That's the thing people tend to pass judgment to easy before they get facts, yes 9 times out of 10 it maybe someone who doesn't want their car damaged is it really a bad thing that they take care of something they have spent thousands on??. And what if someone blocked that car in or vandalised it only to find out it was a disabled person or a parent with 2 kids do they still deserve to have their car damaged.

Because a non-parent has selfishly taken it, perhaps? Unfortunately there are people out there who will vandalise cars for parking in two bays.
Heck, we've had people on this very forum be victims of vandalism for no reason.

I do challenge people parking in bays without disabled badges / child seats. Some people are arsey about it but then it's simply a matter of informing the establishment and the car has always miraculously moved when I return...

To be honest if someone had parked in two bays with a legitimate reason then that's a different matter. But I'm yet to see that.

Ok I'm on the look out for a deep red/burgundy ******** lol.

Made the most of the wet weather to clean n clay the offending area a bit an pulled off some pretty sizeable flakes of their paint. I reckon it'll polish up quite respectably tbh. A couple of areas where it's definitely through the clear coat but otherwise salvageable in the short term. It's gonna need a respray eventually tho.

Quite a debate going on in here. Just to clarify to anyone who hasn't read things properly, I do not park anywhere other than in the middle of standard single spaces, and only named the thread as I did due to the damage that can be caused when parked properly.

Maybe someone can tell me, are parking spaces governed by a standard.. I.e size n length? If so how old is said standard n when did it last get reviewed? I ask because I've always thought spaces were a bit on the small size for some of the cars on the road nowadays.

Is there enough mother baby spots in car parks in general ? No is the answer so even if they took a regular space as all the spaces have been took by all parent and child u still gonna get your door clouted so y don't they make em wider for all they do have room !!

If your going to a Supermarket, like Tesco's or Sainsbury's, if you can, try and go after 7.00 pm, less cars in the car park, less people too, or try and park on the end of a line of spaces, and park over to one side a bit onto the white markings, so the car that pulls up next to you, should be over a Metre away.

Doubt it as there's a lot of variation!
