I don't think you will lose your NBC if she is to Blair as your insurance would just take her to court for a settlement in theory or you could take it via small claims court but I expect that would meet an outlay for you

Even if you don't lose your NCB, your premiums will still go up if your insurance get the slightest hint that you've been involved in an accident whether it was your fault or not.

They like to screw you over like that after taking all of your hard earned cash off you.

Agree with robbo51...

had a pedestrian fall into the back of my car on icy carpark and she got "no win no fee" £10k payout having knowingly lied and watched me briefly arrested claiming she went over the bonnet... only the fact it was a white car and filthy and an unusually bright policeman could clearly see the damp dirt had been disturbed at the back and not the bonnet secured my minutes later de arrest...

also worth mentioning if an object falls from a lorry and causes damage, direct line informed me they needed a conviction before the claim wouldnt be held against ME which i assume to be industry wide policy.. out of pocket, that took 11 months to secure and resulted in a 150 fine and 3 points for the lorry driver having nearly killed me and was a very rare successful conviction..

Bikes, pedestrians, horses and badly loaded lorries - avoid like the plague as its ni impossible to prove fault against them and its only you who have insurance ...

kind of been here and got the T shirt, just issue a summons against the cyclist and fight it in court as long as she looses your NCB wont be affected as this has nothing to do with your car insurance. here is my experience and its a long thread which outlines how slow this was but the result was great

Doesn't her house insurance cover her?

I'm pretty sure house insurance gives you thrid party liability cover when out and about (other than in the car).

In any case, If you can prove it's her fault, a lack of insurance on her behalf doesn't negate her liability to you. The only problem might be recovering the damages if she doesn't have the means to pay.

It would do if she decided to claim. She didn't though.

Yeah what I meant is if the OP decided to claim against her, her house policy might cover her for the damage she caused on her bike.

Even if it didn't though, she's still liable personally if fault can be shown.

Perhaps its time we had compulsory bike insurance in this country!

They say they have the right to be on the road as much as us, yet they do not want to pay for insurance, license or rego fees.

Insurance is their to cover the ass
License is their to say they know the road laws
Rego fees cover the license plates

Both the licenses and rego fees will be cheap.
And it makes it a better for everyone as bike riders who go through red lights get fined and it leaves the good riders.

Here is an opposite situation to this one, driver at fault and then the most passive aggressive confrontation I've ever witnessed.

I quite agree that a helmet and not using things like mobiles, mp3 players etc should be law.
However license, Rego fees and insurance is a more difficult matter.

If you are riding on the road then a license and insurance should be compulsory as this will remove alot of the bad cyclists and at least bring the level of competance of riding on the roads up. A license plate is a good idea but must be small enough not to cause issues and i think making it big enough for all to see would be a problem.

However alot of cyclists do not ride on the road (forests, towpaths etc) in this case i think just a nominal fee license should cover it.

We are living in a country with a population that is getting fatter and more unfit. Cycling is one of the sports that can be done on a very low cost (once bike is bought) do we really want to make it difficult for young families with kids to ride for example, there are alot of complex issues in setting up a system but it needs looking at.

If Bradley Wiggins can get knocked off his bike (and tbh he should know what he is doing) is anyone really safe without the issue being brought more to cyclists and motorists attention
