Tbh im a very aggresive driver and if someone is doing 25 in a 30 i am sat on their bumper flashing telling them to pull over of they dont i over take get out and have words. but im not a fan of overtaking in 30s tbh but if someone is driving on the phone or under the speedlimit providing i can see clearly and acertain there are no dangers i will do it.
Its no problems though i wait until my imaginary vtec kicks in papow. |

It's perfectly safe to exceed the speed limit in many circumstances albeit illegal. It just depends on the circumstances. As an older motorist I remember driving in the early 80's when practically no-one obeyed the speed limits and surprisingly there were very few accidents. Accidents have grown for several reasons over the years: 1. There are too many cars on the roads so people take chances pulling out at junctions, islands etc 2. Children are no longer taught the Green Cross Code - in the late 70's/80's it was nearly always the child's fault not the motorists and surprisingly, most children didn't play in the road or run out in the road because they were taught road safety unlike today where a lot have no clue about the dangers of roads or how to cross safely You have to remember that there is NO safe speed limit. The safe speed limit is the one that's appropriate to the conditions. If that 30mph road was covered with ice then it may be that 5mph would be the safe limit and not 30mph, equally at 4am on a dry empty suburban road it might be safe to travel at 50mph. Speed limits exist only because without them some idiots would take it as a licence to drive at ridiculously dangerous speed. As for road traffic research on injuries at 20mph, yep its probably right. It makes sense that the slower you're travelling the safer any impact will be. But should life always revolve around the fact that an accident might happen? This is where things Health and Safety becomes ridiculous. Health and Safety needs to be about ensuring things aren't so dangerous that an accident is very likely, not about removing risks altogether. As for the roads, you also have to remember that speed cameras and limits are about revenue as much as anything else. In Canada, the population found out about some studies done on this and rose up and forced the Canadian government to remove all the cameras. Funny thing is, Canada is still full of living people and doesn't seem to have huge accident problems since the abolition! The only difference is the government is much poorer. With some single cameras in the UK allegedly turning over £20,000 per hour, is it any wonder the government wants to brainwash people into thinking that if we do 31mph it's the ultimate evil and we should all accept fines. |

I dont think anyone would say to themselves....hey lets avoid the animal and hit the people instead.
I am sure they would try to avoid both if they could. But I am one fo these people that pick insects up that are cruising the house and put them outside rather than stamp on them Im nice like that. Unless its a spider hanging on the ceiling directly above me in bed....they get no sympathy trying to ambush me :/ Last edited by Relic; 19th September 2012 at 10:09. |

Assuming driving conditions etc are acceptable, if someone was doing 25mph then I would probably overtake, if safe to do so - no I wouldn't flash, get up their a**e etc. However, everyone has a right to drive at 25mph in a 30 zone, so I wouldn't have a problem with it! If someone I overtook then started having a go, I would and have responded in kind on several occasions! Sent from my BlackBerry 9900 using Tapatalk |

I posted earlier, and I am pleased to see so many people agreeing that "speeding" isn't the problem, it's inappropriate speed and / or behaviour that is the real issue
Along time ago - I was in my late 20s - my Dad (ex-army driving instructor), persuaded me to take an "IAM" test (he coached me beforehand) - I passed, with 'flying colours', then went back to driving like a complete loon ! - tests are meaningless, it's the driver attitude that matters Here in Norway, the driving test(s) are actually quite onerous, yet most of the folk in my local area can't drive worth a damn Indicator lights are 'optional', give-way rules are just an arcane theory, lane discipline is entirely voluntary, and roundabouts are a complete nightmare (I've been hit in the side three times in fifteen years !)
