Help!
Hi all - need some advice. I went to my local Honda dealers last week just having a look round and quite fancied the look of the Civic 2.2ES. I currently drive a 55-plate Golf GTTDI 140 Mk5 with 18in wheels, auto rear mirror, dual climate, coming home lights and all the other toys standard with Golf's like the computer that tells you when bulbs have blown. Anyway, the salesman offered me some silly money as part-ex for the Golf and I said 'yes' and paid a £1000 deposit. Am currently awaiting delivery.
Now, the more I read about the Civic and apparent less-than-perfect build quality and seeming lack of equipment compared to the Golf (the Golf cost £16999 brand new compared with £17495 for the Civic ES 57-plate) I am starting to have serious doubts that I have done the right thing. Have I? |

Yes the build quality wasn't so hot on some of the earlier models, but even so only a minority have reported problems. Mine is an early 06er and hasn't had many of the problems others have reported.
With each year the build is getting better and I would be confident that any problems you might encounter will be minimal. The dealers are usally pretty hot at getting things sorted. Don't be too worried! |

CZ is right there did appear to be quite a few issues at the beginning
partly due to faulty parts from Honda's suppliers The build is now much better - on par if not better than VW Honda has a superior reputation to VW and Honda has worked hard to rectify any early faults if there are any problems on new car they are minor |

I got my '57' 1.8EX i-Shift a couple of weeks ago, and I love it!
All common issues mentioned here (fuel flap, dumper noise etc) seems to be things of past. I guess we (I) expect so much on a Honda because of its reputation in quality. I admit mine is not perfect, but compared with others it's still very good quality including dealer care. I would say if it impressed you enough to trade your Golf, which is also a very good but not a perfect car, it's worth waiting for. I tested Toyota Auris D4D (180PS) but wasn't impressed at all. It was not more than a very well built high power outpur family car. This wasn't a case for Civic even though it's got less power than Auris. It's just my personal view.... |

I guess I am still feeling bit attached to the toys and stuff in the Golf. I am however getting a bit fed up with the delivery date constantly being put back! Dealer told me Friday but apparently it's been in transit since Wednesday and it's even been delivered to the wrong dealership!! Sheesh!!!
I am a bit miffed at them trying to charge me £1400 for a set of 18in wheels as well |

Dealer seems to be very busy in March & September, eh? Thankfully, mine wasn't delayed...
I stayed with standard 17 inch. what's the proper price for a set of 18 inch wheels+tyres? (I didn't check...) |

Thanks Guys - I am beginning to wonder if I should have gone for the EX though... But I guess I'll feel better when I source some reasonably priced 18 inchers to fill the wheel arches
Is it possible to retro-fit parking sensors and ambient blue lighting? Last edited by eighteentee; 30th September 2007 at 17:30. |

Not sure about the parking sensors - think a new bumber would really be required if you want it to look the bizz......but the lighting can be done.
Check the Wiki for more info and step by step instructions |

They just drill holes in the bumper. There are also non-Honda original solutions to both. Have a look through the how-to section also. I have both these as Honda options by the way and they are both great. |

If you are in a part of the world where you don´t get a lot of snow and ice the camera is a good idea. In my part of the world it is useless for several months. My dealer has several customers who regret that option.
