idea regarding air heater (FK3)

(sorry if there is a thread on this I haven't found one)

Maybe it's plain silly but I think it should be possible to transform the additional air heating element of the Civic's aircon into something like an accessory heating system - just by making it switch on 15 minutes before leaving home to work. What do you think about this? I don't know, however, how to do it, neither if the engine would start (due to additional battery drain), on the other hand the battery would become warmer so it should not make that big a difference

These kinds of heaters, known as auxiliary ventillation heaters or PTC electric heaters, are really not a DIY job. The potential for disaster is surely quite high!
Most cars burn fuel from the main tank to generate the heat and use the main vehicle battery or an isolated auxiliary battery to run the fans and climate control dampers. The load on the battery for this alone is reasonably high - using the battery to run an electric heater too would not be a good idea.

Thanks a lot - I'll have to wait until my local Eberspacher/Webasto dealers figure out how to do the "real thing" - so far AFAIK they have no officially recommended setup for the FK3

I'm asking this myself all the time... but then again it gets quite cold here in winter and with German laws it is really a hard job to get the car free from ice (you may legally start your engine after scraping off the ice and not the opposite) - climate protection at the expense of health I guess

You could go for an electrical engine and interior pre-heater if you have 230V available where you park.
