I'm not arguing that painting isn't the better solution. It is.

I'm saying that wrapping is a perfectly acceptable solution to correct the look. It is not a solution to correcting the paint finish.

There was no argument, those were valid genuine questions.

So using the same logic you have, your post wasn't necessary either was it? (rhetorical question you don't need to answer it)

It's not quite the same logic as he hasn't been offensive towards you

Popcorning it up here. Great thread but the argument you are having is pretty pointless. Both methods will sort the problem and no way in this case is 'the the wrong way'. It's entirely up to the OP how he chooses to fix it. I'm not against wrapping at all but a full respray including prep is an offer worth taking.

V-tec'd all the way from my iphone.

The question from OP was on price and where to go. An alternative was proposed that you immediately shot down as "wrong" without any form of justification just because it didn't correct the paint.

You yourself said that the reason for fixing the paint was to correct the fact that the look was damaged.

I'm trying to get across that the underlying issue is the look, not the paint - and there is more than one way to fix that underlying issue. I would prefer to respray if it were me in that scenario, yet I'm trying to validate that there are several ways to go about getting the result desired.
But for whatever reason that message doesn't seem to be reaching you?

You can cite as much rhetoric and tenses as you wish with me

You don't have to act a KOK to put your argument and opinions over though. Now do you. I've merely pointed out it being unnecessary and judging by your response you must be having a really bad day

Would you like to about it???? I'm a good listener

Everyone,

Please argue the point and not people's supposed intellectual levels. Let's get back on Topic and help the OP.

Thanks

I think it just boils down wether the OP wants to spend less by -
  • Wrapping - which will resolve the issue of the way it looks, but won't change the fact the paint is still damaged. (Out of sight out of mind method)
Or spend more by
  • Respray - Which will resolve the issue of the way it looks, and repair the paint at the same time.
OP, you may phone a friend if needed to.

Wish I had put it that simply before - that's the point I'm trying to make in that both methods fix the issue.

£1500 is a very good price for a complete respray .
£1000 is a good price for wrapping , both options would solve his problem but only he can make the decision

If you want I could pass you my brothers number on to you! He's a painter and will tell you what it needs! May not need repaint all over, don't trust garages! Pluses would be a lot cheaper!... Just saying there is no way I would buy a wrapped car second hand unless I knew what was underneath!

wow, I appear to have started a small war

I did ask about wrapping and the bodyshop guy gave the same answer as above it would look fine but there's a real chance of lifting the lacquer that hasn't cured.

Thanks for the HPI offer but I've already checked the car and everything came back clear, as the bodyshop said all panels line up and no obvious impact damage he suggested it's probably been malicious damage key scratched and the like.

Looks like I'm going to shell out 1,500 notes and keep the car until the wheels fall off to get my money's worth out of it. Trouble is he's fully booked up until the 3rd of december so at least it will be a nice christmas prezzy to myself.

I'm really annoyed with myself to be honest as I spotted the paint on the door and didn't think much of it, the problems have only come to light when I've started to detail the car, might just rub some mud back into it

like I said it's not actually that bad and to anybody else apart from the rear bumper and lacquer it looks fine , polish and wax just makes it worse and my OCD on stuff like this is horendous .

On the dealer front I bought the car from well known car supermarket in liverpool and needless to say won't be going anywhere near that place again.

I'll keep this thread going and update when i get the new paint I might as well get the GP kit now whilst I'm at and well and truly flatten the account - hahah.

Thanks again

Going back to basics, if the car is only a month old and they did a fix for you, and apparently failed to do a good job, can you not go back to them to (politely) complain, and ask for them to cover the cost of things, either in full or partially?

I could try but the front is not the problem really it's the laquer peeling at the rear. Might be worth a try though ???
