Engine Cover.

O.K., so Ive only this morning opened the bonnet since I got the car, but I have been a bit busy.
In the manual for the Civic Type S GT 2.2ictdi, it states that there is an engine cover to remove, after opening the bonnet.
I dont have one, although my wife is sure that it was there when we viewed the car.
Should I have one please guys, before I go mad at the dealership and whats it for.

I've got one

My SGT 2.2 has a black plastic cover bolted over the top of the engine. It is easily removable by undoing 4 small bolts.

I had to remove it to enable a power supply to be run to me new powered sub direct from the battery.

Many thanks HumberMart.
I shall now go bl--din mad at the dealership, as they have obviously nicked it.
Or being kind to them -- forgot to put it back on.
What do you reckon its for then. Cant be for sound insulation, if its plastic.

P.S. Sorry to be so thick, but you do mean a cover for the engine compartment, in addition to the one that just covers the actual engine with HONDA icdti on it in chrome letters, which is plastic too. ???

Well it will provide sound insulation as it's quite a strudy moulding.

Mainly it covers all the delicate diesel injection type thingamybobs that look like it they need to be protected from heavy handed diy dabblers, and keep them free of road much etc. Most modern engines seem to have such plastic covers these days, esp. diesels.

Yes I agree the dealer has really boo bood if they've supplied a car in such a state. As you say they may have 'borrowed' it for another urgent need (but so much for the pdi), or perhaps just forgot to replace it after set-up checks?

If you can see HONDA & i-CTDi, then you've got one - you would soon know if you haven't, 'cos it ain't 'alf busy underneath it - pipes going every which way!!

Yes Allan has spotted your edited post with the crucial 'ps'!

It looks like your car is 'normal', and the 'engine cover' referred to in the manual, is what it say's, just an engine cover, not a mythical 'engine compartment cover'

Thank you all very much Guys.
It was the section which states - dont press too hard on the cover, below the "closing the bonnet" bit which got me + er indoors telling me she def' saw an additional cover at the dealers.
What a plonker I am.

I have another one, if you don't mind.
After over two weeks, my spare wheel will be at the dealers on Monday.
From the Manual , it would seem that the storage for the aftermarket spacesaver differs to one ordered with the car. i.e - no wheel shaped removable carpet section, so the said wheel can sit right on the metal floor of the boot.
Do I screw the fixing through the carpet and into the pre made thread in the lower storage area, in which case, i'll want a bag off them as well.
Don't fancy them cutting a 600mm + dia hole in the carpet, as somehow think they will have it looking like rubbish.
Or, - Shall I really get me coat this time.

Jack - have a look here...

Pic of spare?

Spare wheel sits on top of the carpet and 3 foam blocks in the recessed tray under the boot floor. I asked my dealer about the wheel shaped carpet thing, and the reply from Swindon was that it is a European requirement, but not a UK one.

Many Thanks pjr. Thanks for the link as well. ( Must use the search in future).
Seems that I didn't ask such a daft one after all.
So it would seem :--
One hole in the lower carpet, to accept the locking screw.
One spacesaver with bag, to sit on lower carpet via blocks.
slide back lower storage lid to hide it all.
One net for damaged wheel or for holding shopping, in the interim.
My dealer made it sound as if he had to relay all the carpet in Buck House.
I will certainly be doing it myself.
