Remote screw rounded - how to remove it?

I'm trying to change out the battery in my remote. The previous owner ganked up the screw so badly that the screw is toast, the pattern is no longer a phillips head.

I've tried the key cutting shop, but they also couldn't remove it.

Will I have to carefully drill it out?

Any other options?

Where do I get the replacement screw from? I'd happily get the new casing off eBay as mine's a bit shabby anyway but don't want to pay for cutting the blade.

Any advice greatly appreciated.

Could cut a slit in the screw with a dremmal then use a thin slotted screwdriver but you would probably nick the plastic casing. Might be easier to buy a new housing and 'carefully destroy' your current one to get the innards out.

I was under the impression you could just swap the plastic part over

I got my screw out with those precision screw drivers and using force while turning.

also pliers, when the head gets out a bit use them to remove it with the pliers and not the screw driver.

That's what I was thinking but I'm not sure if you can remove the blade from the casing:

Am I the only one hear to think that the screw is a Star screw rather than a posi drive?

That's because he didn't want to pay to get a spare made up - get back to your dealer and demand a spare key - while you there get them to change the battery in the key fob FOC.
