As much as I'm thinking a ctr may be a bit wasted on me, I feel like the diesel is wasted perhaps even more.

Probably the main attraction would be keeping a civic and sidestepping all the clutch malarkey at the same time.

Also, importantly, I have plans to mod my 2.2 after Xmas along the lines of a ctr with colour coding, lowering, spacers, ctr spoiler and spacers, along with the ctr wheels I already have. That cash (plus the grand or the clutch) would go a long way towards a ready made ctr that looks the part and has no clutch problems.

The only thing I worry about is running costs.
Absolutely, I'd go for it. The running costs are not going to be massively more, and you're really not seeing the benefit of the diesel for short trips.

Go for it mate!

I had my Type S derv for 2 years, when I was looking to buy it I could have bought a CTR for less cash but the 2.2 suited me at the time travelling to work, mpg cheap tax etc.

Then an early mid-life crisis kicked in.

The only downside is your road tax doubles and the mpg drops a bit, but when your on A roads and your in 3rd gear, all that goes out the window.

Yes it's starting to make sense in a round about kinda way.

Reckon I'd get about £6000 for my car. It would cost a grand or so to fix the clutch. Plus other mods I had planned (basically that would bring it closer to standard ctr spec) would be an additional £700+.

Quick swatch on autotrader and ctr's with less than 60,000 miles are going for around the seven grand mark.

I'd stick with the 2.2 it's well known that CTR's suck especially in standard form the 2.2 with a ten bob remap is way quicker 400bhp I believe and you still get 9000mpg, can't think where I've read this best bet is a corsa VXR

As I have both - the 2.2 gets 42mpg and the CTR 31. The road tax will double.

As you only do minimal mileage I'd got for it.

When the wife's diesel gave up and had to be replaced I simply couldn't justify another 2.2 due to the clutch so got a CTR instead and we both do a 60 mile journey each day to work. Yes I noticed the fuel increase but, so what!

CTR mate. The only reason I have a 2.2 is because I do the miles. Theres no way I'd own it if I didn't have to travel.

The extra money spent on tax is nothing to replacing your clutch 6 times a year

No brainer imo, for that mileage a ctr will cost very little more to run if at all and you definitely won't regret it. There are occasions where the stiff suspension, noisy cabin and other such inconveniences annoy me but come Friday afternoon after work in the summer shooting off from work early for a 6 mile detour round some country B roads reminds me exactly why those niggles are not a problem, the ctr keeps me smiling until Monday morning when its back into ring road traffic.

Ya!

I think the answer is to test drive one first of all and see if I like engine or not.

If it's gutless unless I'm thrashing it then that's a no no for me. Im not driving miss daisy but then again I'm also not a 21 year old fast and furious wannabe.

Go for it! the only reason I went for the derv because at the time for me the ctr insurance was over £3k and a daily 40mile commute to work. A lot has changed since, and I spent a fair bit on my derv. Now I'm waiting patiently for a nice alabaster ctr for sale so I can move my mods over .

The ctr is not a test drive kind of car - not many people fall in love with it on first try. It's the sort of car that you grow to love after a few weeks of ownership when you realise it requires a different type of discipline to fully reap the rewards. The car will not do the work for you, it has to be thrashed as that is the nature of the power delivery of vtec

if you're going down the shops then drive normally. The car will do the job you ask of it. But and this is a big but. And also where the 2.2's bag of tricks is completely empty. Take the twisty B road route back home after shopping and you will see what a versatile car the ctr is - all the practicality of the 2.2 with none of the drawbacks
