The programs I have been watching indicate that the scumbags now nick the car and leave it somewhere 'safe' for a while.

If it's still there after a while they assume it's not got a Tracker and it's gone.

The 'would you want it back' discussion is very valid, and often comes up when trackers are being discussed

At the end of the day, it will largely depend on personal choice, and the car itself (or more to the point, the scumbags it attracts )

As an example - if you own (say) a DB9, then the kind of person most likely to try to nick it will come equiped with a low loader and go to every possible length not to damage the car. This is becuase the car is (likely to be) being stolen to order.

At the other end of the spectrum - if you own (say) a sooped up J reg Nova, then the kind of person who will be most likely to nick it is a local chav who will rag it round the estate, use it to ram raid the nearest Aldi, and burn it out in the middle of the closest field.

A CTR comes somewhere (I believe) in the middle.
It's not exclusive or expensive enough to be stolen to order and shipped out of the country.
But it's got too many security devices as standard to make it an easy target for the local chavs.

Which doesn't really get us anywhere except another classic TTDegs ramble

(sorry!)

Yeah and you gotta hope that the traffic cops are about as they have the tracking stuff in their cars - not the little corsas which the usual bobbys on the beat go about it. If it could give a pin point location then it would be great, but that will never happen due to GPS and the displacement.

I have to say that in that Theft post its true that if someone is going to nick your CTR, or any car nowadays, they will try and do it with the keys. Usually from your house as you sleep and by the time you wake they are long gone......that is when Tracker comes into its own as they could be anywhere.

Btw, tracker was also a really good selling point on my car (even if the girl didn't have a clue what it was like)

Perhaps the time has come for Tracker information to be available to all.

Being able to logon to a website and see where your car is so you can either get it back with the aid of the local rugby team or simply report where it is.

Or has been mentioned, leave it in situ after wiring up a few lbs of gelignite whilst awaiting their return, that should do the trick if it's a Corsa.

A few pounds!!!!!!! On a Corsa!!!! A strong fart in it's general direction could destroy one! (I know my first car was a 1.2 Corsa Breeze [again that was all that was needed to destroy some part of it]). A pound of gelignite should do the trick and have em' [in Yorkshire] going, "did you hear that......?"

Hi all. Just thought I'd throw my oar in here. Basically I work for a large rental / credit hire firm. As a matter of routine ALL of our vehicles (from the humblest Yaris) are fitted with GPS / GSM tracking. We have had a spate recently of vehicles going missing and unable to locate them via the tracker. We have recovered some, and the tracker was untouched.

It seems that the gangs of professional criminals have tools to enable them to jam the signals from the tracking devices, basically by emitting RF interference on the same frequency as the tracker.

Personally I will be fitting a tracker to my CTR, mainly to help apprehend the casual thief. However, it remains to be seen how long such devices will remain useful. A quick search of the net reveals just how cheap these devices are.
