12,500 Miles - Plain Sailing or should i say driving?

Just took the Spaceship in for it's 12,500 mile service.

Put it in to Crown Honda, Watford - as my trust and confidence was lost dealing with Ewell Honda!!

It is now ready for collection - with the the following taken care of.

2 Recall items:
1. Addition of a spring on the filter cap.
2. Check on Chassis Plate - to make sure the correct one is on the car.

All other checks / changes given the green light.

My only gripe with the service from Honda is they no longer pick up/drop off your car and give you a hire car for the day (as told when I bought her) and it seems the lady at crown honda quoted me the incorrect price for the service. £165.00 I was told over the phone. This morning it went up to £205.00 because it's a diesel and needs fully synthetic oil ????????

hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. Anyway thought I'd share with you all.

Did they not know it was diesel when they gave you the quote.
if they did I would have paid £165.

My first service was last month, it's a diesel.
I asked the price when I booked it in, it was £157 (I think).
That is what I paid. I had ordered a touch up pen, they threw that in for free. I had a loan car too.
that is about the price I was quoted when I asked for the 5 year service costs, they vary as different things need doing.
I think the petrol first service is around £100.
Sounds like you need to check what they charged you for.

Terry.

Okay just picked her up - complained about the 2nd price given - Crown Honda agreed to only charge the quoted price!!!

I should bloody well think so too! Apparently the difference in price is because the diesel oil cost £59!!!!!!!! Compared to petrol car oil which is around £30!!!

Also have done a little field research on 2.2 i-CTDi 12,500 miles servicing and here is what I found:

Crown Honda (Watford) : £205.00
Ewell Honda (Surrey) : £180.00
Brayley Honda (St Albans) : £195.00
Chiswick Honda (London) : £159.00

Interesting wouldn't you say!

Never not been given a loan car, when cars in for service, in my life mate.
Tis business, isnt it.
Was given the dealerships M.D.'s car, when my last Honda went in.
All boils down to keeping you with them and selling you another car in a couple of years.

I have to arrange my own insurance for a courtesy car. It was £10. Is this usual??
At my last dealer (Skoda) it was inclusive with the courtesy car.

both the pricing of the service and the inclusion (or not) are down to the dealer.

As far as I am aware, Honda specify how much time each thing should take - from changing a spark plug, to a full service, to... whatever.

The dealer is free to set their own hourly charge rate.

Therefore a large dealership, with massive overheads may choose to charge more per hour in order to recoup costs.
Or, alternatively, they may choose to charge less per hour to stay competative.

Similar idea applies to courtesy cars - they cost the dealership moeny to own / tax / insure etc etc, and its down to them if they wish to even take this cost on in the first place, absorb it completly, or pass the cost on to us

moral - gets quotes, and find out what is included in the price

(and make sure you consult the Wiki to find out if the cheapest one is any good )

I thought Honda had a fixed price servicing scheme (I know it is if you go for the 5 year servicing package) but thought it was fixed anyway
