Civics cant fly....

OK.. My first post and im going to introduce myself as a potential idiot...

I recently bought my new civic es and the other evening came across quite a *sharp* hump back bridge that crossed a canal near my house... so i decided to launch over it... not a good idea.... unlike popular believe and design concepts.. these cars are not space ships and cannot fly... (almost did though!)

I hit the deck after clearing all four wheels off the ground and started hearing a real nasty scraping sound... pulled up and looked under the car and the sump guard (sheet of aluminum) had been ripped off and was hanging on by one last bolt...

Looks like no other damage was done... anyone got any idea of cost for the part and where i can get one of these cheaply?

So... one more thing ticked off the list of things boys must do before they die.. NEVER going to be doing it again.. must i must admit... afterwards my girlfriend and I did say to each other it was pretty damn awesome if not scary and possibly expensive! If only I could have video'd it...

Welcome Koxy,

I have tried similair stunds in old junk cars - but wold never try it in my Civic..

I think you need to ask your dealer for pricing on that part.

Well if it makes you feel better everones tried something similar at some point. Think it comes from so many movies having pretty much flying cars!

Get a price from one of the dealers on here & if O.K. purchase it from them.
That way, your dealer shouldnt have any record of it and anyway you haven't bought it for your car have you. .
Don't do it again, I and the other 6000 + on here, could be coming the other way.

Yeah I can post pics of the damage... im getting the car on my mates ramps this afternoon for a closer look.

The thing was... it was about 11pm.. in the country.. i just crossed the bridge and thought.. that was kinda fun.. so decided to turn back and take another run at it... (doh). i wouldnt pull a stunt like that in a built up area or with oncoming traffic!

It's well known that the landings are the problem, not the flying.

I tried it in my first ever car, I must say the result was the best modification ever done to the fiesta!

Would never consider it in the civic though or any new car for that matter unless it was a 4x4!

I once did this in a Mazda Mx6. I was doin 65 ish and hit a steep hump bridge. I landed hard and buckled an alloy wheel and bent a gearbox mount. I would never try it again at more than 40mph in any car.
