Someone said park as far away from the shop door as possible -
well that theory doesn't always apply for example Morrisons car park in stirling has little bits of kerb at the end of some the parking space rows and if I can i tend to park as close to the kerb as possible - then even if the person that parks next to you parks on the white line or just over they would be hard pushed to damage my car similar scenario in Tesco's, Sainsbury's etc |

I no longer need the parent spaces as my kids are older now but when you have your baby you will see how annoying it is when you have to park in a normal space, especially when you return to the car to find someone has parked 4 inches away from your car on the same side as the baby/child seat !! As for the trolleys - having had a trolley fly across the car park in the wind at my local B&Q damaging my bumper I now avoid any space in sight of a loose trolley !! |

The fact is that some people care about their cars, some don't. I don't particularly care about mine (not a Civic!) but I care about others and I'll always avoid hitting another car door with mine, even if it means a total upper-body workout getting in and out.
Some people don't care about cars (look how many French cars are on the road! I don't know how I'd cope with parking a Civic at a big carpark. In my car I generally look for the best (or best looked after) car and hope. Last edited by Seirrah; 26th October 2007 at 14:29. Reason: typo |

Sometimes Seirrah, thats the best you can hope for
Luckily, round here, Tesco generally has big empty bits either as you come into the car park, or right at the back Morrisons has a smaller car park, but its also a smaller store, so again tends to be fairly empty at the end furthest from the door |

On a seperate note, I should point out that none of my rants above are directed at one particular person, just the world in general, which seems to be on a slippery downwards slope

I have heard that a complaint to the manager of the store may help financially....although they will probably say they have signs admitting no responsibility, they would rather cough up £80 to pay for your car to have a scratch repaired than have you shop elsewhere and the bad publicity.
A good game to play as you walk past the disabled parking spaces is to loudly point out when there is a car with a blue badge..... It appears that my local Tesco is full of parents with child and disabled people judging by the number of spaces allocated, and being used! Maybe there should be a few spaces marked for "ordinary " people? I couldn't find one of those parent and child spaces when I took my Mum shopping! |

I don't know if it's coincidence, but recently I've been noticing cars parked across 2 bays in my local B&Q and at Asda.
By that I mean that the car is correctly in a bay front & back, but is centred on the white line between adjacent bays. I've seen a lot of duff parking, but usually the car is mostly in one bay - this is where the car is squarely on the dividing line. What happens is that other cars park next to the "offending" car, but in their own bays, thereby leaving half-a-bay space either side of the "offender". I wonder if this is a cunning plan to ensure that the cars don't get dinged by adjacent opening doors. Big boot up the a*se if it's just bad parking, but big prize for lateral thinking, if it's deliberate. |

My friend parked her car in a car park and had one wheel over the dividing white line and ended up with a ticket, she took a photo of the car showing the wheel was over by about an inch but lost the appeal. |

I was saying yesterday at work how some spaces in car parks seem to be getting smaller but the general trend is for cars to get bigger as the model evolves.
For example a old dear in her C reg BMW 525 pulled up at lights outside my work, a new 3series pulled along side and that was bigger than the 5! My mums 5 series estate now overhangs spaces really badly by about a good foot at least! Tend to find that if she reverses into a space where there is nobody behind her there will still be nobody behind her when we come back cause she is overhanging into the space behind. I think supermarkets, other shops etc should really be upgrading their car parks at least once every ten years at least and maybe make the spaces bigger. Same goes for new ones being built. I have to say my local tescos has quite spacious parking, shame I don't like tescos lol |

[quote=davee7;114749]I love reading topics like this!
- if “the rest of you” (and by that I mean ‘the general public’ – NOT aimed at any individuals on this forum) started treating everyone with an little bit of respect and consideration then maybe I wouldn’t have this kind of attitude…. Hi Davee7 and others contributing to this thread, I can only append my signature. The country is going to the dogs, there appears little or no civility these days. |
