always park as far from the supermarket doors as possible, people dont like walking so you should be 99.9% safe.

I stay in the car, whilst "Er Indoors" goes into Tesco.
That way, I can kick Sh-- out of anyone, who opens their door onto my car.

Sorry to all the mothers and fathers im about to upset but i park in parent and child (im not a parent).the reason i do this ? within two weeks i had 3 parking dints in my doors cost 80 quid to remove them , the last one i caught the young lady doing it and not only did she open her door into my car she also left the door opened against my door whilst she struggled to get her mcdonalds backside out of her corsa , leaving some very nice scratches , when i confronted her she said "itall be rite" to which i replied of course it will can i have the name of your insuance company please to which she replied F OFF , so i rang the police and was told it was a cival matter as it happened on private land so i told them she was driving without tax and insurance (lies) they turned up within ten mins and she paid the 80 quid to have all three dints removed. This will never happen to me again as long as there is a parent and child space free.

Lol! Good thing you don't like near me or you wouldn't bother with the parent and child spaces either for the fact that the lazy so and so's leave their trollys next to the other persons car when there are trolly parks right next to them. Probably about 5 within 20 feet! For situations with trolleys I think they should all have the wee £1 things, that way people are forced to take the trolly to a trolly park and not leave it next to your car.

I've also found that even when I park furthest away or in an empty car park at 6am that I come out 20mins later and there is someone parked right next to me in the oldest rust bucket you've ever seen or a 4x4, people carrier or estate with baby and child on board signs and a couple of child seats. Wouldn't mind, but they are the ones who park the closest!?! Then you find a ding and its like how do you prove it was them. One was stupid enough to take paint from my door onto his once and he denied it was him until I showed him the vid of missing paint on my door and exact colour match on his blue door at the same hight! To say he wasn't impressed is an understatement. He said he was a careful driver (not by the state of chipped paint down the door) and he had never seen anyone take pictures of damage to their car and it was just going too far! My foot almost went too far!

well yes, thanks for that.

So that's why we now have parents (who need to open doors wider to get the kids out) parking amongst the general public - ie amongst the rest of us.

Nice one, cheers.

Surely can't be a Tesco he is parking at then cause you need to be a member of the parent and child club and display a badge when parking in the parent and child spaces. Badge expires when the child is 5, but I don't know how they enforce this and what action they take to people without children not displaying badges.

seems to vary by store, and unfortunately, I have never seen the action going as far as clamping and dirty great "do not move this car" stickers superglued on the windscreen

pet hate of mine - both as a parent who couldn't get into parent and child spaces because they were filled by inconsiderate drivers, and as an owner (kids are a bit older now) who has had his car (accidently) dinged by parents who were forced into parking in the normal smaller spaces

down to the "I'm alright, tough luck to the rest of you" mentality these days

Unfortunatley they cannot clamp folk like that in Scotland and I don't think those sticker things work either. Think once the window has been stickered they just think what the heck, just do it again.

I'm sure I will find out how hard it is to get one of these spaces soon enough......although as I've said before at one of my local stores people in the parent and child spaces seem to be leaving their trollies against the other cars parked next to them in the same spaces!

LOL

Given that the owners obviously can't read the dirty big signs saying "parent and child spaces", then the sticker I'd be putting on the window would have large letters - which would (oh dear, what a pity) then have to cover the entire windscreen...

did I mention its a pet hate of mine?

I think you will find it is not just parents that do that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have seen many people including young inconsiderate drivers shove their trolleys in any direction after loading the back of their car and driving off.

One day when your all grown up you might have children of your own and understand.

It is because of people like you that parents struggle to get in an out of their cars when in an ordinary space!! You are not a parent you obviously have no idea how difficult it can be trying to lift a baby or small child in and out of a trolley in to a car seat.

There are few parent parking spaces available in car parks and for an inconsiderate person to take one up is ridiculous, here is an idea park further away and walk!! No doubt you are the same type of person who jumps in a lift whilst being able bodied leaving the disabled and people with prams stuck waiting!!

Yes I understand that, but at the store where this has been happening, it has been the people who have been parked in the parent and child spaces leaving their trollies against the other cars park in the parent and child spaces.

When i'm grown up? For your information not that its any of yours, my child is due in March! So F off and think before you make anymore stupid comments like that!

I love reading topics like this!

I feel like I'm one of the minority in this country who parks considerately, keeps to the left unless overtaking on a any road with more than one lane (i.e. not a lane hogger), uses indicators whenever changing direction, etc, etc – the list is very long.

To be honest though, I must admit I’m one of those inconsiderate people who uses these parent/child parking spaces unless I can park in an empty looking area of the carpark – or the parking spaces are a good size (which is never happens!).
The reason being is not

- but because I am fed up with a lack of driving skills, standards and consideration to other people, that the majority of drivers on our roads show to other people. Sometimes I feel like the only person who has parked with any consideration to other carpark users… If people get away with parking however they like and damaging others cars, then I’m going to park in a space that is big enough to ensure that my car does not get damaged (and is mostly not legally enforceable). Apologies if that pisses off a few of you genuine parents who park considerately – but us considerate drivers are in the minority.

And while I’m on a rant, I experienced a minor incident that is a prime example of people’s attitude to each other in this country….. I received a call one night this week at 1am on my house phone – woke both me and the wife up – who turned out to be some drunk bloke yelling down the phone at me then hung up. The following morning I dialled 1471 on the off chance and couldn’t believe it but got the guy’s mobile number! So I called it – should have done it at 1am I know – around lunchtime and a women answered:

“Hello?”
“Yes hi, I was wondering if you could help me. I received a call from a guy on this number at 1am last night – I was just wondering what it was about?”
“Well, it wasn’t me!!!”
“Oh I know that, it was definitely a man’s voice – but he woke both myself and my wife up – and he was quite abusive?”
“Oh ***** off!”
Click

Now I thought I was being calm and polite – I just wanted to know what had happened and be assured that it wouldn’t happen again…. The response I got, to me, sums up everything that is wrong with this country.

Anyway, if it seems that I may be like

- if “the rest of you” (and by that I mean ‘the general public’ – NOT aimed at any individuals on this forum) started treating everyone with an little bit of respect and consideration then maybe I wouldn’t have this kind of attitude….

Apologies for all that - sometimes it's good to let off a bit of steam!!!

Okay, sorry Topcat. I assumed that as you were quoting me that you were referring to me!

Hmmm, yea the Neds and Chav thread.....I was thinking of that one just the other day. What fun that was!

Maybe you are right. It possibly is the people who aren't meant to park in them trying to pee off the other drivers who are entitled to be there. Or it could just be that its in a scaffy part of town where they don't give a s**t! Maybe both!

If you can't beat em, join em...

ok, ok, hands up, I'm convinced by all the rational and well presented arguments in this thread

From now on I shall be:
Parking in disabled spaces (actually, 2 at once to give myself even more room);
Undertaking at every possible opportunity (and making opportunities even when there are none - apols if that causes someone in here to crash, but I no longer care);
Jumping red lights - cos I'm in a hurry, see?;
Breaking into your house tonight, to nick your keys. Not to drive your car away, just to drag them down the side of your car.

While I'm at it, I will also:
Stuff my face and talk on my mobile, at the same time, while driving;
I will change lane without indication, or indeed looking;
I will park on double yellow lines, or blocking your driveway, cos I'm then less likely to have my car scratched, and its easier to get to the cashpioint if I park like that;
I will drive at all times with my headlights on, and foglights too;
Queues are for wimps - I will therefore be joining your queue that you have been sitting in for hours, by virtue of knocking those last few cones out of the way and then diving in front of you as you sit there with your mouth open in shock.

I'm pretty sure I'll do some other stuff too, just cos, well - I can, and lots of other people do it, so it must be ok.

Thank you, and goodnight.
Off now to scratch a few cars in my local Tesco - hey others do it, so it must be ok, yes?
