Ping when key in ignition
When you put the key in the ignition you get a pinging noise and a key symbol on the display. Is there any way of stopping the noise?
Reason: I want to be able to turn the stereo on while cleaning the car. It seams that the only was to do this is to put the key in the ignition and turn to I. You then get the pining noise continually. Alternatively, is there any way of getting the stereo to turn on without the key in the ignition? |

Stereo needs ignition key to operate.
The seat belt beeper can be stopped: http://www.civinfo.com/forum/how/522...elt-beeper.htm Are you saying that you want the key in ignition and door open? |

WRONG!!
Turn ignition to position one. Radio comes on, no ignition on. Open the door..ping. Close door, ping stops instantly. Try it. |

I asked about that some time ago - I like to get in the car and perform all the pre-flight checks with the door open to give more room.
It would be nice if it detected that someone was seated and not perform. That would be a good party trick, get out of the car and the beeping starts 'ignition key' warning, etc, get back in and it stops |

I think the point is this:
If you leave the car unlocked it locks itself after a while. If you then have the keys in the ignition you will be locked out. Like the old days when you pushed the little lock stick down and shut the door only to realise that the keys were still in the ignition.. If it was clever, it wouldn´t lock if the keys were in the ignition - I mean you are not forgetful enough to leave the keys in the ignition AND to press the remote - are you? Haven´t tested this... Kremmen - why do you need "more room" to perform the pre-flight checks? ** Cabin crew, cross-check and report ** Last edited by FWH; 28th October 2007 at 18:06. Reason: space between t and o of to instead of between to and press (am I over-explaining?) |

If the car is locked then the assumption is that you have the keys outside the car to unlock via the remote. If you open no doors then it locks automatically after a period of time. To get the keys into the car you must open a door ? If you leave the keys in the car and close all doors it shouldn't lock at any time. Quote:

Hmm you say that it only locks if you unlock it and then donīt open the doors? You may well be right.
If that is the case - what is the point of the warning at all? I find it annoying. Anyone know where the beeper is, so we can rip it out? I am sure it is the same beeper used for other things like the speed warnings - but I can live without those pings too. |

OK, after some testing.
1) If you unlock the car and do not open any doors it relocks after approx 30 seconds (when the interior lights go off). 2) If you unlock the car and open a door, it does not relock 3) If you open the door, sit in the car and put the key in the ignition it will beep. I presume indefinatly (until the battery is flat), I let it go on for like a minute. 4) If you turn the key one step the same as 3 applies. 5) If you turn the key two steps (all the way) the beep stops. You could have the key turned all the way and have the key turned all the way and have the radio on or do your pre-flight checklist. |

That is one answer
I've just got used to getting in and belted with keys on passengers seat until I'm ready. Not sure I would like to have Blackpool illuminations in my face whilst getting ready for take-off The other about the ignition sequence is that when you turn the key anything that needs the ignition to be on powers up. Then when you press the start button it all powers down as the starter takes all the juice, then all powers up again. All cars do this, so not a unique thing. I had a feeling the car didn't lock automatically in the manner described as I have left it in the garage all night unlocked sometimes. |
