Door handle "theft"??

Ever since the 8th-gen civic was launched, I've been told that Honda "nicked" the hidden door handles from Alfa-Romeo. Even experienced motor journalist's has claimed that from day one.
Is that really the truth? Personally I don't believe so. In fact, I rather think it is the other way round. Have a look at the pictures on the following links;

Alfa Romeo 156 launched 1997;

Have I got it all wrong or are people talking bulls**t to me??!
Actually, it was the manager at the local Honda dealership (NSX owner) that pointed this out for me. (otherwise I wouldn't knew)
Is it only because Honda is a non-European car maker they just couldn't invented it??
What's your opinion on this?!

Yep

My guv'nor's got a V reg 156 and the rear door handles are identical. They do look more convincing on the Civic though.

Quite a few peeps have commented on my "3 door" not realising it has 5

It's also quite funny if the passengers have "had a few".
They stand there waiting for you to get out of your "3 door" and let them climb in.

An aside to this:
Why did Honda not chrome or paint the handles?
They are cheap and nasty compared to the Accord and CRV

Yeah my mother in-law stood there for about a minute! She wasn't even drunk either!
When told to use the rear door, she then decided to try and prize it open so eventually I decided to help her!

They blend in better with the C pillar as they are. If they were colour coded it wouldn't look so hot.

I had hidden door handles on my Lotus 7, all those years ago, but Colin Chapman did tend to forget to put a few bits in the box in those days.

The front door handles are painted - in satin chrome
(got to admit though I do prefer the handles on my CR-V)

I find that pretty entertaining too till my gran decided it would be a good idea to try and feel for the invisible handle with keys in her hand and rings on :@

I had a Fiat Coupe 1997 and that had exactly the same door handles. so the design is ten years old and Fiat used it on the Coupe before they used it on the Alfa
