Superglue on dash of Type S GT

I stupidly managed to get some superglue on the dash underneath the right hand side headlight level adjuster knob.

In a blind panic I pick something, anything nearby to try and mop it up which has now left a large smudge and the headlight knob stuck

I now kinda want to cry.

I've tried an alcohol free nail polish remover which I found in my girlfriend's box of stuff, but it made no difference.

I'm not TOO bothered about the knob being stuck, I would rarely touch the level, however I'd like to try and remove the smudge.

Luckily being where it is, it's mostly out of sight to all bar me, but it's going to bug me severely.

Anyone have any ideas?

Would be nice to have some picture of it, as to the smudge I really don't know, my first thought would be some fine-grade polishing paste but in some cases it might even make matters worse. As for the knob, I would not worry so much it should become loose again after s few frosty nights (the temperature difference often makes the glue break)

Sorry to hear that, super glue is evil stuff, I can't think of anything that will shift it. I've tried loads of different ways in the past, when I have done exactly what you have, but with no luck.

Someone may come up with a solution though you never know.

50 quid for the entire dash? That's not too bad actually. How difficult is it to replace? I'm thinking they won't install and fit for 50 bucks!

I'll try and get a picture of it, but it may not show up too well on a pic to be honest.

Have a look here:

Removing Super Glue - Super Glue Removal Information

I've also seen a Super Glue Remover on the shelf in one of the DIY sheds.

Ps: Watch out though....look at this question and reply... Superglue Removal

also look here... Super Glue Pacer Liquid Super Glue Remover, 1/2 Oz. at Epinions.com

All advices end up with an acetone-based product, but I suspect that acetone will also harm the plastic. If the superglue has made its way into the plastic, it is impossible to recover the panel. If that is the case, you will anyhow, have to replace the panel, so I think you may give acetone a try.
But, before that, take very good care for the surrounding and mask the unspoilt areas with a masking tape. Paper tapes may absorb the liquid, and carry the potentially hazardous acetone to currently intact places; so I would advise the aluminum duct tapes for masking. Also take precautions for the areas where there is a possibility for the acetone to drop on.
I wish you the best of luck...

I have some stuff which is very good, you might be able to buy it somewhere.
Its called Bostik skin release agent.
Great stuff and just seems to dissolve away super glue.
Hope this is of help, its what is written on bottle: Bostik limited, Leicester LE4 6BW Tel. 01533 510015

Superglue remover - obtainable from B&Q,
Phone the glue manufacturer and speak to their tech' dept before using it and if advised, use their own remover.

Yeah I meant that - not the dash itself

Do they install and fit for 50 quid normally, or is it relatively simple?

Hmm, I'd be interested in this dash too, as mine seems to smudge and smear like crazy.

For a Honda part its a good price Tom. ( Not that we should be paying it).

If replacing the dash panel is too much hassle / cost, and the glue remover doesnt work, you could always stick something over it to conceal the smudge. For Example black plastic trim or something else which would not look out of place.

Architects use the same trick with trim to cover up unsightly joints etc.

Hmm, I agree, it is possibly the worst material they could have chosen for that part of the dash. Mine marks like crazy and shos up every fingerprint (I wear gloves now when cleaning my car, because of this problem).

I know this post doesn't offer any help but I want to ask the question everybody is thinking...why were you using superglue inside your car? Didn't you have a table in the house to construct the Airfix kit?
