Angry The curse of my civic stikes again

Today whilst parking in a multi storey car park I managed to reverse into a metal post putting a dent on the corner of the bumper, chipping a big chunk of paint off and popped my parking sensor - yes parking sensor so how the hell did I manage to hit a post you may ask!! The sensors were beeping but intermittent they hadnt got faster and were not constant I am really really peed off as I have no proof that they were not working properly as now they are beeping constantly as the broken sensor is inside the bumper

Are you sure you weren't a wee bit too fast when reversing?
I got parking sensors too (OEM not original Honda but mounted by the dealer), and a few months ago I have had a similar situation in Berlin, I wanted to park backwards in an underground garage and the beeping had become continuous for a reason I initially didn't understand, I stopped and got out of the car - the reason was a piece of metal on the wall wall, don't ask me for what purpose it is there. It looked like it was already hit many times, and in fact I was astonished that the sensors have "seen" it since it wasn't too big maybe 40 x 2 x 2 cm and a bit higher than my bumper.

Unlucky, proof you can't rely completely on such things.

No I wasnt going too fast I was at an awkward angle and was going quite slow, the pillar that hit the corner of the bumper was actually completely out of my sight too by the stupid over sized rear bits between the rear passenger door and boot!!

And my beeping wasnt continuous it was still at the initial intermittent beeping part which is why I was so shocked when I heard a bang

I do have a spare bumper but it isnt perfect and I will still need to pay for the labour to have it put back on and possible new parking sensor. Suppose it now eliminates the problem of where I was going to find space to store the bumper.

I was wondering if that one sensor wasnt working properly maybe from where the new bumper was put on two weeks ago.

When I park at work I always reverse back and they have been working fine, I always stop just as the sound goes to continuous and there is still a gap so it just doesnt make sense.

It sounds like a possibility that it may be faulty. I get very good detection from the side ones when I back in to a space - it picks up the car next to me.

Feel for you. Mines just back from being being repaired after a rogue exhaust came bouncing down the motorway and in to my front bumper (quite lucky it didnt bounce any higher or it would have got my windscreen and me!)

Popped in to dealers today they couldnt pop the sensor back in but the car is booked in for next Wednesday now for the suspension so they are going to fit the old bumper back on and check the range of the side sensors but chances are if they are refitting the sensor it will be fine.

I asked them to look at my boot struts again as the boot doesnt have any spring in it at all anymore I have to physically lift it all the way up otherwise it sits where it stops which is a pain in the bum when carrying bags etc.

That must have been a faulty sensor, I've always found them to be quite sensitive to not only posts but also high kerbs.

I wonder why the struts continue to be an issue? Mine seem OK and I would have thought that the replacements would be the same as what's being factory fitted?

Hi Kremmen

It is the cold weather that is responsible for the boot struts being reluctant to push the hatch up.

I wonder if we sometimes rely on technology too much? I don't have parking sensors and wonder if that makes me a little more cautious?
I remember the studies carried out where dangerous bends in roads were straightened out only for accidents to increase because folk lost the "over compensation" factor.
