Courtesy Cars
Does your dealer provide a courtesy car?
If so, does it insist that you insure it? Does the dealer have its own insurance? I find this unacceptable in a modern dealership that customers have to go through the hassle of arranging insurance for the car for as little as one day!! Last edited by robbo51; 16th November 2007 at 08:41. |

It was always the case that you would just 'transfer' your insurance from your car to the courtesy car and that was fine, but insurance companies are robbing g**s now and most wasnt a £15 fee for the privilge of doing this as your changing the car details even for a few hours mostly.
They then have the cheek to charge you another £15 to put it back to what it was. Oh and they send you a certificate that was only valid for a few hours anyway. Not sure what the deal is with courtesy vehicals at the dealership I use.........I know that they have them but thats as far as it goes |

Mine charges £15 to put me on their insurance, apparently. Its money in their pocket since their policy will let anyone drive with their permission etc, however, it saves the hassle of phoning my Company etc.
You pay for convenience! |

Citroen always used to give the reg No of the car in advance and then give you a different car on the day but insisted on your insurance.
Lexus used to assume you wanted the car and it was insured and taxed by them but you signed a waiver to cover the first £100 or so as per a normal policy. Not been to Ruislip Honda yet - I'll let you know next March. ps: When Brodick posts below (I'm clairvoyant) Direct Line have never charged me either. as an aside, if they gave Charles a car with a rear wiper would they ever see him again ? any time our Honda's have been going in for their service or for
some other work we have always been offered a courtesy car and I have always put it on my insurance I have never been charged by direct line for this and find the arrangement more than agreeable I have heard some people moaning that they get charged if their dealer insures the car so it is a no brainer for me to do it with my own insurance ( although I am not sure if my dealer would insure the car anyway) Last edited by Brodick; 16th November 2007 at 12:27. |

I may be just lucky, but have to say, in all the time that I have owned Hondas, the dealers have never charged me a penny for a courtesy car or cover for me on their own insurance. (Fully Comp).
Many times, they have even given me their MD's car to use. |

A Honda courtesy car should be on the garages insurance... they make you sign a collision wave damage form...
The most STUPID thing about the last courtesy car Honda gave me... was they work of a "empty tank" basis... where you put in the fuel you need and return it empty... I think i made about 4 "£5" fuel stops over the 2 days I had it!!! |

I drive a compagny car, and I just dropped off my own civic and got another for the day (a petrol one, made an awefull lot of noise compared to my diesel) with a full tank. Didn't have to do anything, just dropped it off with half a tank left. Didn't pay anything for it

When I checked my car in for a rear parking beeper warranty replacement, the guy on the service desk insisted that no courtesey cars were provided which meant that my wife had to follow me over to the Dealers in her car - some 12 miles away. On our return trip to pick the CIV up, I just happened to meet the Sales Person (nice girl)who sold me the car. Quite naturally she asked why I was visiting. On finding out obout the lack of a courtesy car she was furious and said if I experienced this problem again to contact her direct as courtesey cars are always provided. Sounds like the Service Desk Clerk didn't know what he was about

My dealer asked me to insure my courtesy car through my own insurance company (Tesco) saying most don't charge for this. Tescos didn't but they may be in the minority. On the other hand my previous dealer provided a free pickup and drop off service if you were within 10 miles which I thought quite generous.

Avonvale Honda let you choose from 3 options
Courtesy car on your insurance (free) Courtesy car on their insurance with £500 excess (free) Courtesy car on their insurance with zero excess (£10 fee) I use no2. They only ask that we replace the fuel we use which is fair enough. The actual cars themselves are Jazz's usually, but i've had one 2.2 EX Civic and one 2.0 Accord before. |

Mine charge 11.75 (???? It says 10 on the paperwork!!!!), but I always tell them you pay! and usually they do, why should I pay for the hassle their company has caused me. I got a 1.4SE Auto Jazz (woooo!). BMW before, wouldn't even give me a CC as I was under 25, and apparently wasn't capable of driving a 1.6 mini! (yeah right......gnashing of teeth, grumble moan moan, thats partly the reason I drive a Honda now, cos BMW annoyed me so much on that policy).

This is where Lexus shot themselves in the foot - when I had the IS200 they loaned me a IS250 and I hated it. Got me looking for something else.
It has one of those foot operated parking brakes that you need to be a contortionist to operate. It's no wonder you sit behind some cars at the lights on permanent brake lights, I think Mercs have the same setup. The IS250 also had a badly designed centre console that you can't help bashing your left knee against. I probably won't need a courtesy car as TC can give me a lift home in the Jazz, dates are bound to coincide |

Took my Type S in to the dealer to get the Type R grille, the Ipod adaptor, and the mats fitted, and I got the service managers car, (a 1.8 civic). All I needed was my drivers licence, and I put some fuel in
