20 minutes? I worked as a student (looooong ago) in the Ford factory here. There was a Transit out every 2 minutes, and a Mondeo every 40 seconds! Don't know however how long it took to make the whole thing. Hard to tell also, because lots of parts are made in other factories, or in nearby "partner-plants".

I'd guess it depends on how far back you go in the process and how you add the times together.
I mean that the engine and body are made at the same time so the time would half (if they were the same). How long for the paint to dry etc??
Then assemble the whole box of bits.
8 hours does seem reasonable but a bit excessive me thinks.

Do you have to include the time it takes to tear the raw iron ore out of the earth and process it into mild steel then too? And what about the 70 million years it took to make the oil that goes into making the plastics?

I think that, on average, a car is built within one standard 8 hour shift. So if the component parts are made ready at the begining of a day for 400 cars (Honda's avg. production at Swindon) then they will complete those cars within the two daily shifts.

Just had a look on the John Pease Honda blog site John Pease Honda Braintree and they have a Video on there headed Civic Type R GT......on there they advise its actually 12 Hours from start to finish to build a Civic.......not specific to CTR, Sport of 5 door.

But I also noted in the video that they go on about how they have never had a engine failure with the Vtec system....Hmmmmm, sounds like a wee porkie to me!

Must be an oldish video - they have only had one or two engines
fail in all the years it has been built and even they were quite recent

It seems to be a very new video as they are going on about the fact that they were very proud when the first new (FN2) CTR rolled off the production line.

They also state that they sell more CTR's in the UK than they do in the whole of Europe!
