Bye Bye Civic !

Well after 18 months , 14000 miles, I can put up with the crude ride quality no longer. I loved the looks, the engine (2.2),the dash, but along with the cheap and nasty feel of the door handles and the worst ride quality of any other 4 door saloon that I have ever driven. It had to go !!
I have part exchanged it for an Accord . First impressions are , better build quality , and just "more grown up "
I have noticed many more Civics about now, and mostley driven by people even older than me (56) I expect that they had the old model and have replaced it with the latest one. I wonder what these loyal Honda customers make of car !
Is there an Accord version of this site ?

Sorry to hear your views, especially as I get mine this week. I hope you have better luck with the Accord, which I think is a fantastic car too!

I find the civics ride no problem at all and very comfortable but then each to their own.

But the Accord is a fantastic car. I used to own one before the civic and the New Accord Tourer coming out next year is very likely going to be my next car.

I currently drive an Accord 2.2 EX and it's a very nice car but going to get a Civic Type R in the new year.

Accord has done 30K in just over 12 Months and hasn't skipped a beat most reliable car I have ever driven. It's Company car and my job is changing in the new year so it's going back in March to some other luck person.

So I'm going the opposite way to you

Maybe its because I'm 22 and still into sporty mode but I don't find the ride that bad, sure it can get a bit rough sometimes but I've never found it truly uncomfortable and I usually take passenger comments as a good indicator and not one has mentioned the ride being poor or that it made them feel ill.

Well, *I* bought my civic this year upon retiring (drove Audi 4s and Audi 6s when I was working) and it is my first Honda.

I'm a fortnight shy of 62 so fit into your 'older' category, but I am very satisfied with my spaceship. Looks great, ride is okay - a little stiff perhaps - is like a Tardis being bigger inside than out and converts from snappy hot hatch to a small van when required, in no time at all.

Anthony.

No, no, you didn't Mike222. I am just sad that you have to get rid of your space ship due to the 'old' body. I like a stiff suspension so I think I will be alright.

The accord is a great car, I had chance to ride in one this year and I thought it was very nice. I hope you enjoy the car.

I agree with your comments Mike, not that I'm going to get rid of my Civic anytime soon, but the Civic is a very dissapointing car! I won't be buying another Civic (certainly a british built one) and the standard of the dealerships leaves a lot to be desired.

Great looks inside and out, but poorly implemented!

Agree, except that I have had pretty good service from my dealer. Its taken 18 months for the faults to be largely cleared, and the dealer has tried quite hard throughout. I still have the 'fundamentals' of poor ride, poor radio, high road noise etc, but they are design deficiencies rather than build faults

Yes, my previous Honda was a 2001 Civic Coupe automatic.
I'm not divulging my age, but I have received my 'Winter Fuel Allowance'. I've bought a case of whisky, it's the best winter fuel I know!
That aside, being an extremely loyal, long standing Honda aficionado, I find Honda UK's quality control below that expected of it, I am sorry to say. I feel that Japanese built Hondas and even the Coupes, built in the US, are better built, with apparently fewer quality control issues.

Why cannot Honda UK improve their quality control? I know many new Civic owners claim they have had no problems whatsoever, but there are many, many who have, experiencing niggling issues that should have been sorted before either leaving the factory or prior to delivery, myself included.

I do not think it is a defence to say Honda is no different to any other motor car manufacturer. They are - they are Honda and that used to make a difference. It is no use referring me to the customer satisfaction reviews either. Everywhere you turn, standards are being lowered.

I think the Civic is a great car, but Honda UK are shooting themselves in the foot by turning out cars in the condition they do. It is time to get a grip Honda UK!

For the record, personally, I have no issue with the ride, road noise, or dealership.

I chose my signature carefully. I think it speaks volumes.....

I agree Bog.

My main disappointment is that there was a definite desire to cost cut, eg:radio, poor quality plastic in lots of places, handbrake ratchet poor quality, seat adjustment, paint skimped on and I could go on. I think it is highly unlikely that I would by a British made Honda again. My Mercdes A Class was built to a price and never had any problems in the same way that this car has been. This car was rushed onto the market too quickly with disastrous results. I'm now on my third dealer, as I am not entirely happy with Ruislip Honda.

The Accord is Honda at its best.

The Civic is...not.

The only worry for Honda afficionados like me, is whether the poor Civic standard of quality control and its use of surprisingly low grade materials in places, marks a corporate change in standards or is simply a short term aberration stemming from over-exuberant cost control.

We shall see.

Crv

Compared with my 2 CRVs from 2002 and 2004 the Civic is Premier League, whilst their build quality left a lot to be desired. Failing rear parking sensors, dash rattles and carpet trim falling off.

Type S build quality seems spot-on, so far (paint, trim and all)

I wont be far behind you - the only positive thing I have to say is that the interior space is amazing.

I had a boxed 50inch Tv in the car today with ample room all around, my brother was really impressed but sadly thats just about the only thing that has impressed him with this car.

I've now got to the stage where I'm thinking why put up with something you don't like. The ride is terrible, and I'm trying desperately to convince myself that I'm overeacting. Sorry, but I'm going to be test driving the A3 (the car I test drove before the civic). To get the same spec I know I'll be paying through the nose, but I just can't keep on putting up with this cars poor ride quality. Can anybody tell me why the car is so uncomfortable? Have Honda made a radical change to the suspension?

I went back to the VW dealership yesterday to look at the Golf Plus again (I need a boot bigger than the standard Golf) which is the car I almost bought before the civic.

Im going to look over the Xmas period at Ford too an see what I can get, it will have to be a used car now thats the only problem
