Replaced my Alfa GT 1.9jtd with a Type R. Alfa was a beautiful car with generally good build quality but it had a battery drain problem which meant it often didn't start & the more than useless dealers were unable to sort it. Also lost a small fortune over a couple of years. So far the civic has been faultless.

Brought the Alfa home tonight and I love it, time will obviously tell though! Build quality on it is superb though and the finish excellent. And that Bose sound system...........ahhhhhhh

Im really pleased for you Hartside

Do drop by and tell us how things are going with the Alfa.

Would be an interesting comparison.

Good luck!

There is a low mileage @ 2 year old Alfa 147 Gta 3.2 V6 for sale at a garage near me for @ £11,000. It has been advertised for a couple of months so I am sure a discount would be on the cards as well - Very Tempting, especially with the bose sound system that comes as standard.

Most petrol heads have a soft spot for alfas.

True, as Jeremy Clarkson once said, no-one can call themselves a true petrol head until they have owned an alfa. Have been tempted before but was scared off by reliability issues. My boss used to have a 156 2.4 JTD- lovely looking car, good to drive, but lived at the dealers and eventually died completely!!

When it came to buying my new car it became a toss up between the CTR and the Brera. Had considered the new Spider until I heard how crap it sounded. But after owning a Mini that was in the garage 48 times within the first 6 months and god knows how many times after that (I believe that BMW UK had 34 pages of recorded visits for warranty work alone within the first 5 years) As I knew that the Alfa reliablilty wasn't the best and I couldn't face being back and forward to yet another dealer about a new car again hence the Honda. Its been so far, so good touch wood but only time will tell I guess.

Happy driving with the Alfa, its a great choice and I may follow you there after the Honda!

Hi Hartside

Sorry to hear that your getting rid of your Civic. I have to confess I absolutely love Italian Cars. My ex next door neighbour was a Fiat/Lancia mechanic and introduced me to italian cars in my teens. I had a Lancia Beta Coupe and brother a string of Alfa's from a Sud Sprint to a GTV Strada. But as you say you buy them knowing that they might be quirky. Anyway all the best with your aquisition and let us know how you get on with it.
