Farewell to my Civic

Last Tuesday I said a sad farewell to my civic, it wasnt a decision I made lightly but as I entered 2008 with the same problems with the car three of which had already been fixed before (one of them twice)! I decided that enough was enough, no one can say I didnt give the civic or the dealership a fair chance to put things right, almost two years of constant battling to get the car right was starting to bore me and to be quite honest I simply wasnt enjoying driving it anymore.

I couldn't afford to buy another new car as all my spare cash had been spent on the civic so I started to look around at used cars at various dealerships. Then two weeks ago I stumbled across a real bargain, it is a pre-registered (Nov 07 - 57 plate) silver (my fav car colour) car that had only 6 MILES on the clock with sports pack upgrade which included 17inch alloys and colour coded paintwork, the best thing of all was it was reduced from £16,395 to £10,495. I took it for a test drive and instantly fell in love, the gear change was unbelievable, the car lets in less road noise than the civic and despite the bigger alloys is much less firm on the road. I also found the driving position and comfort better. Another couple were waiting for me to test drive it as they were interested so I knew at that price it wouldnt hang around long and put a deposit down.

I was offered £10,000 for mine as a trade in so was fairly happy that I was getting a new car for just £500 more. But luckily for me a friend of mine knows a honda dealer (I shall not say where) who said he would buy mine from me for £10,500, obviously I was delighted as I was now getting a brand new car without having to pay anything other than road tax

My final car journey in the civic was sad, I was nervous and felt sick but knew that it was the right thing in the long run, I dropped the car off an jumped in my brother's car and didnt look back, I couldnt believe what I was doing. That feeling didnt last long though, as soon as I picked the new car up an drove off I knew instantly that I was going to prefer the drive of the new car, no more stiff clonky gear change, a boot that opens perfectly, a radio with no static, no more knocking or rumbling sounds, no more steering rack noises and seats and dash that are far more durable - a car better suited for my needs and the kids and dogs!!

I think with the bigger wheels and colour coding actually looks really nice but, yes compared to the civic it is boring, and yes compared to the civic the dashboard is bland and no it isnt as fast as the civic but I am happy with it and thoroughly enjoy driving it, so much so that I get excited about it!!!!

Why am I not saying what it is? Because when other members have said they are getting something else or trying to decide what to get I have noticed that many of you are very quick to condemn any other car, saying they will regret it, they are making a mistake, that they heard so many people say they have problems with the "other" make etc etc. Well I have never once said on this forum that "all" civics are the same, I have never said to anyone asking "should I buy a civic" that no they shouldnt and I have never said they would regret buying a civic. I feel that the decision I made was right for me, I am glad I owned the civic as otherwise I would always have looked at it thinking that I should have got one, I am sad that I had to get rid of it quicker than I would have wanted as I lost so much money, but then I have snapped up a bargain, there are certain aspects of the car I will miss, but there are more that I definately wont miss!

It has been great being part of this forum, and having had two civics and plenty of experience I hope I am still welcome here as I feel I have made some good cyber buddies, one of which (you know who you are) has known about this for a couple of weeks and has given me some good advice and been a great help and the one good thing with having all the problems is I have made some very great friends down at the dealership too

I hope you all continue to enjoy your civics and thanks for putting up with all my moans

Well, pop in now and again, or ask Pottsy to start a new section just for your car.

Good luck with your new car TC. I hope, for all our sakes, your old Civic was a Friday afternoon special and not representative of what we can expect!

If your new car is a Focus, they are great cars for a bargain price even if they are not quite as exciting to look at as a Civic.

TC, it is so sad, but sometimes we have to make difficult decisions that make our life better. Good luck with the new motor!

I don't see why it has to be bye. TC actually has a lot to offer people who come on here to mention a problem on there car. I think she should be encouraged to stay and give advise on how to deal with the problems.

I won't know what car to watch out for !

If I see someone waving out of a strange car and I haven't just cut them up I'll assume it's you

Sad, but understandable, to read that it's over between you and your Civic. Having gone through this myself I can assure you that pretty looks soon take a back seat to reliability and quality.

It's also a shame that Honda's one-man PR machine now has free reign.
